Are You A Angry Saver?

Well a savers and pensions campaign has been set up online..
here is the address http://www.nspu.org.uk/forum/index.html#category0

Hello world!
In the current economic climate we at NSPU (National Savers and Pensioners Union) are asking epople to unite against the government, banks and building societies in order to TAKE CONTROL BACK!
We hope that in creating a single voice the government will be forced to listen
Our aims are to encourage the government to:
Allow a worthwhile return on savings, taking into account true inflation.
Make all saving and pensions tax free.
Produce some sort of written guarantee regarding our savings in order to stop banks being wreckless with out money.
It is a fundamental right for people to be able to buy a home if they so wish, we must allow this to be possible again.
Allow for free higher education to be available to all.
Finally to vet all banks and building societies more closely to help prevent another 'credit crunch'. Including making branches more approachable for local people.
However we cannot begin to do this without your support!
Please join us for free at this website!
Or you can write to us at NSPU, PO BOX 78, YO21 1XH
All comments to this post and any future post will be greatly appreciated and we encourage you to voice your own opinions!!
Thank you!
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

What fundamental right to buy a house would that be? What house do I have a right to buy? I can afford this but I'd prefer this.

I'm not even an angry saver. I'm just grateful that I have savings in the first place.

More a sad saver recognising that we are in a recession if not depression and savers always get screwed in a recession and it could get worse.

My wife has created an e-petition asking the Prime Minister to guarantee contributions made by employers and employees into personal pension schemes. It states that "The government has been keen to promote personal pensions, encouraging us to save for retirement. Due to the economic crisis many people are now finding that the value of their pension fund is worth less than their total contributions, even after many years of saving. It is also particularly galling for the general public to see bankers getting huge bonuses, paid out of the public purse, as well as having pension funds of millions of pounds. The government was very quick to guarantee savers’ deposits when the banks were in trouble and should now guarantee all contributions made into personal pensions, thereby giving equal treatment to those who have worked and saved hard for their retirement."

I am assuming that is "true" inflation - whatever inflated figure you want to make up, rather than actual inflation.

A written guarantee with cash to back it up? Yes we've already got that. Its called a guarantee that if the bank goes pop you won't lose your money. i take it that actually you want a written guarantee that they won't drop their savings interest rate below a nice conservative 25% to stay in line with "true" inflation.

A fabulous idea. Lets make it a human right, that way we can all demand that the government provides us with the means to buy a home. Thats each of us as individuals of course - don't wave your human right to your own home by living with anyone. And if you can't afford it then the government will make it possible for you to own it anyway - it is a fundamental right after all.

Where I live branches are approachable. I am able to walk right up to them, step through the doors and everything. Are branches where you live surrounded by angry out-of-towners waving pitchforks?

My congratulations to you. You win Frootloop of the Week award.

    correction:
its a fundamental duty of people to buy a house that they can afford.
its a fundamental duty of people to buy things they can afford.
its a fundamental duty of people to be responsible for their own actions.
