    Hi Obukit,
I am trying to book Brighton seafront for a couple of nights. The rates are not applicable there I have tried all different dates and all the links you suggested but no joy. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi Maro,

I'm afraid Friends and Family rate is only available at participating hotels - while this includes almost all IHG hotels some are not taking part.

All I can suggest is if you know anyone who works for IHG you could invite them to book employee rate for you (they can book up to two rooms), but I'm afraid I can't do that as you need the employee to accompany you. Employee rate is currently £26pn for Brighton seafront so you'd still be quids in.

Good luck finding someone, and sorry I can't be more help!

  • Kit's information on here has been by far the most useful I've ever come across on MSE and his continuing help, admirable.

But deals come and go in all kinds of shapes and sizes, so if you're keen on Brighton, why not run an Internet check?

I mention this only because I nearly booked a Holiday Inn via one of Kit's links earlier today for £45 but then discovered the same hotel was offering, on bookings.com, the same accommodation, on the same night, for £59 including full English breakfast.

Though the 'link' deals are way, way below anything you'll find on the 'Net -- or by logging in as a Priority Club customer -- I'm pretty darn sure I'm not going to get breakfast in any Holiday Inn, anywhere, for seven quid a head. So today, then, is the exception to the rule.

As to why this should be so: as far as I'm aware, Intercontinental Hotels Group is not dissimilar to, say, Best Western -- there isn't a single overall corporate owner, so there isn't a requirement for every establishment to standardise on a promotion, or even to offer it.

(In the case of the HI referred to above, the £59 for 2 including breakfast rate was on bookings.com alone: yes, Laterooms had the same price, but not the breakfast offer.)

Given the seeming autonomy of some, if not all, establishments under the IHG banner, it may therefore be the case that though you can't find what you need via one of Kit's links, an IHG establishment in your target location may -- emphasise: may -- be running a limited-offer deal of its own.

None of the foregoing is in any way meant to cavil over the unique value of Kit's links and posts: without Kit, we'd be paying triple-figure sums more this year for hotel accommodation here and mainland Europe.

Rather, this post is just to point out that there's no harm in making a venue check via bookings.com (my favourite) or laterooms (nothing like as competitive as it once was) just in case you happen to chance upon the kind of rarity we encountered today.

    Good luck!

I have just tried the F&F link & it seems not to be working tonight. Has the promotion ended early?
    Thanks in advance!

Just a heads up that Intercontinental hotels have been in touch with us, to say that MSEers can have access to their special friends & family discount offers, until May 31st 2009.

Is this the same thing? Thanks

Try this one unless we wait until Obukit is able to send their link again.

Actually the form is blank that you need to print out so we can put in Obukits details as in first post anyway.

    Hi,

I'm afraid IHG have been in touch with MSE saying they don't want the rate to be publically available any more.

Any bookings made up until today will be honoured at the price you booked, and if you have a friend or family member that works for IHG you can still get the rate - please contact them directly.

Sorry for anyone who's missed out - two-for-one rate and leisure saver as still available as per the first post in this thread.
