IN STOCK but OUT OF STOCK!!

I HAVE RECENTLY BOUGHT AND PAID FOR ITEMS ADVERTISED AS 'in stock' WITH 5 DAYS DELIVERY ETC...TO BE EMAILED A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER SAYING..."SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE ETC but we are out of stock!!! I then have to go to the hassle of emailing to cancel my order and re surfing to buy...surely this is an abuse...they have my money for 2,3,4 days maybe more getting interest on a con...is this acceptable...the item is still on the site advertised with "IN STOCK" seems a strange con-way to make money, is this legal?.......Wouldn't have thought so....seems like a well worked out, easy cash flow scam....

I doubt this is a con as the interest made would be very low, as in pennies. It is more likely to be a case of poor communication internally, but as they are refunding you, they are acting legally.
I have this problem with a large internet based contact lens company and it happens everytime with them.0 -
Was this by any chance a replacement keyboard with functioning caps lock and fullstop keys?0

MANY A MICKLE MAKES A MUCKLE...Thanks for replying ...it is such a ' pita' (aka pain in the xxx) when after searching and note taking etc etc...to make the decision to part with the dosh...then zilch...it is very frustrating.....and to excuse this with bad comunication well seems a bit toooo convenient to me....0

I must admit that you're making a bit of a mountain out of a molehill here, and looking for a conspiracy where likely none exists. You say you went through the 'hassle' of sending an e-mail and looking for the product again, but seriously, was that really bad enough to get this angry about? People are inconvenienced all the time by unexpected events for a variety of reasons, and I honestly don't think that this is something to rave about.
I consider it highly unlikely that this is a scam of any sort, but even if it is, they've deprived you of a few pennies at best and actually proving it would be nigh on impossible. What's the point in getting so pent up about it? Just let it go, move on, and don't use that company again. Simple."MIND IF I USE YOUR PHONE? IF WORD GETS OUT THATI'M MISSING FIVE HUNDRED GIRLS WILL KILL THEMSELVES."0 -

im having a similar problem with tesco except no one can agree if its in stock or not, i bought (or atleast tried to buy)a bed that was out of stock for months and got my email saying it was back in stock, then they sent me one saying is out of stock so i called and the woman was like well its in stock on the website but we dont have access to the stock system so i have no idea sorry theres nothing i can do for you. they havent taken my money so its not a problem but its just bothering me that they had it advertised as in stock for days after i complained. that and the fact that im sleeping down a hole in my bed since my dog ate the wooden slats underneath lol0

Poohsticks is right; any decent company would only charge the payment on the day of despatch but then OP doesn't actually say they have been refunded?
I wonder did the company actually charge the card or does the OP just think they did? Pretty much all online retailers will take card details at the point of order but if they don't charge until despatch then they won't need to issue refund and they won't be rubbing their hands in glee at fleecing somone for those gorgeous brass pennies.
I may have my maths wrong but at todays (non-)interest rate you'd have to spend £1k for a company to earn even £0.05 over 5 days? As tomwakefield says any transaction charges would be more than that.
blacksheep1979 - you should be ashamed for making such a cheap jibe. Anyway the OP keyboard clearly has functioning full stop............ there's some... there's some more... :rotfl:0 -
Hi Jamie, you are quite right....but...I don't mean to want to go on about this ...but, why advertise an item, a Laptop as it was, in stock, that you do not have in stock...wasting peoples time...and energy and effort and yes maybe there is no conspiracy......Thanks Jamie...it's just my sense of injustice here, going overboard...Michael.0
