Cautioness is of course necessary but a pessimist is likely to be over cautious and miss out.

    http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Pessimism

Before reading this article, please be aware that it will be disappointing. Thats because everything is disappointing. Nothing is as good as you expected it to be, not that you would expect it to be good if you were a pessimist. But still, its even worse than you expected, even when expecting the worst.

"One of the world's most famous pessimists was a complete "expletive deleted" named Arthur Schopenhauer, who will be referred to as Schopenhater for the rest of this article. Schopenhater attempted to prove that this world is the worst of all possible worlds. See the quote below:"

"But against the palpably sophistical proofs of Leibniz that this is the best of all possible worlds, we may even oppose seriously and honestly the proof that it is the worst of all possible worlds. For possible means not what we may picture in our imagination, but what can actually exist and last. Now this world is arranged as it had to be if it were to be capable of continuing with great difficulty to exist; if it were a little worse, it would be no longer capable of continuing to exist. Consequently, since a worse world could not continue to exist, it is absolutely impossible; and so this world itself is the worst of all possible worlds."

There's quite a difference between trying to understand and having a dig (which you might like to explain to chucky and dithering dad.

How can not having a job, having financial difficulties or having personal issues be interpreted as having a dig!? You not having a job is fact and an unfortunate fact not an insult.

I've made comments to your original post (Post 8) but you instead focus on the negatives and have concentrated on your interpretation of the negatives of my point. It sums up your negative outlook perfectly.

Are you actually capable of having a discussion without having a dig at someone?
You just can't handle a different point of view can you?

You come from a country that has a nasty govt, a massive aids (and other diseases) problem and severe economic woes, It is like someone moving from Sarejevo or Beirut at the height of their conflicts and complaining about the gun crime on the London streets :D

I'm trying to understand how people can be short-medium term optimistic economically. Lostinrates sums it up nicely - long term you have to be positive however short-medium term I think we're in for an awful lot of pain and I just don't see how anyone can be positive (aside of the great bargains to be had at the moment).

We (The Brits) have been through bad times before and got through. Why wouldn't we this time?

As a country we have faced a lot worse things. My ancestors faced much worse things. I couldn't let them down by being a wimp - in the face of what? What is there to be scared off - starvation, disease or war? No.

    It's just a down turn - even if it's a bad one.

    Abuse Report Received [#696749]

You'll have to learn to curb your abusive tendencies or you may well have to find a different discussion board to troll on. Thank you.

That's rich, you say landlords are sleazy and greedy yet run to the mods the moment someone calls you a plonker.

Incidently on the subject of greed (as you probably know I am a landlord) I donate monthly to the RSPCA by dd, and one off's to the Dogs Trust, Last Chance Rescue Centre and others. As well as donate my time to vounteer at various dog rescue centres, I didn't see any mention of the doing anything like this on the recent charity thread:

To merely drift along as a jellyfish on the tide of gloom is very eary but not, I wouldn't have thought a particulary enlightened approach.

It's hard but I see merit in trying to always see beyond the crowd, which is why I sold my B2Ls in 06/07, and why now I'm trying to see beyond the gloom.

It is striking to note some people mire themselves only in the gloomier side, as if they feed off it. They always claim its merely them being realistic, but no realistic approach would be so myopic.

There will be an upswing. I can envisage a 10 year slump as the pessimists would paint, but on the other hand my non jelly fish reasoning questions this.

Surely even uber pessimists can rise above thier base instincts and take in a fuller view?

The bulls are that stupid they think we stay bears in every market scenario....:rotfl::rotfl:
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

I would say that makes you a bear (imo anyway).

Anyone who can predict beyond 10 years is clearly being fanciful. The only thing you can state equivocally is that human nature tends to seek out happiness and contentment (unless you're one of the wreckers on this forum).

Well said! I was once in a car crash and it took 4 years to fully recover (although I was walking almost normally after only 2 years) and after that experience I can certainly appreciate being healthy. I did eventually make a full recovery.

I can relate to that Steve. A couple of years ago I was treated for cancer. It makes you totally re-evaluate your life. Suddenly everything else that was a big thing in the past - be it debt, losing your job, etc, seems small beer by comparison.

That's not to say I don't have down days thinking about the economy. I think I'm a floating bear. I like that expression better than a floating bull or just floater - both of which have excrement connotations!

So just because I'm from a troubled country I have no right to comment on matters here, simply because the UK isn't as troubled as Zimbabwe?
