Faulty Xbox but No receipt and paid for in Cash - help!?

Hi - I wonder if I can call on the brains of those in the know out there please? My brother purchased an X Box 360 from Blockbuster less than a year ago. The silly fella doesn't have the receipt and also paid for it with cash. He's been on to the microsoft website where it asks for the serial number and when he's input it its told him that its outside the 3 year warranty (which is nonsense).

What I would like to know is - does he have a leg to stand on or should he just chalk it up to experience and keep his receipt next time or pay by credit card?

Many thanks x x

Did he register for xbox live as that normally notes your xbox details etc.

You could pop into Blockbuster and ask them to print you out another reciept, most of the biig chains can do this as they ask you for your name etc when you buy

Yes he has registered for X Box live - I'll ask him about that and I'll get him to try going back in and asking. Got a nasty feeling they didn't get his address details tho! Thanks for the suggestion x

I bought my Xbox on ebay and it has broken a couple of times, each time I just phone them and they replace it, they don't required the receipt at all. I assume that the Xbox that blockbuster sold was one of the first one's released or it was second hand, that's the only way it could be out of the 3 year warranty.

The red lights of death/doom thing has just happened to my son's xbox - it is just over two years old. Am I right in assuming that to get it fixed I just have to ring Microsoft customer services and they will arrange collection and repair it? Where to I find the number?

Makes me wonder if they sold you an ex rental console? Wouldn't put it past them!

Yeah just give them a call, they're very helpful and don't put up any hassle with it, should be a 10 minute phone call.
