Well we shall soon see, I'll go into a different branch tomorrow and see if they can see what the fuss is about, and if I can do it there whatever they need as I'm barely at home to use my local branch and can't take any time off work for it.

If its that urgent they could have called me though I suppose. In fact I've only ever dealt with them over the phone with every aspect of my account inc overdrafts etc, just wish they'd use proper stationary and read their letters before they send them out!!

I'll report back tomorrow if I get anywhere with the other branch.:money:

I would not be surprised if the two words " Account Review " are not mentioned....which in bank speak means we want to flog you something.

More than likely. I would still be tempted to go in though, just to see what they would offer.

In my own case Barclays phoned me and after a little discussion asked if I had any problems with the account. I answered 'no, but my barclaycard interest rate is rather high'. (22.5% :o and I had not got around to changing it as I work part time and thought no one would offer me a BT).

When I went to the bank to discuss it, instead of lowering the interest rate she tried to flog me a loan to pay off my credit card (at 12% I think). OK I would have paid £80 per month for 3 years instead of £150 a month and getting nowhere fast, but I thought 'sod it, you've had enough money off me over the years' and walked out with the blurb, determined to screw them back...:D

Upshot was I got a 0% balance transfer with Virgin for 16 months. Once I had confirmation the barclaycard was cleared I rang them to cancel the card. They offered me 6.9% provided I spent £50 per month. However I don't think I will ever spend on this card unless its an absolute emergency.

Moral of the story - because of Barclays own greed, they gave me the kick up the **** I needed to screw them back. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
SMILE....they will wonder what you are up to...........;)

Well I called them yesterday throughout the day literally 24 times and everytime there was no answer, just one of 3 (yes count them, three) answer messages by totally different people! So I left a message, then had a missed call off them later on in the day cos I wasn't near my phone in work. Had a message from someone there telling me the person I asked for was out of the branch and would call me back today.
So I waited all day..............no call.............called them 9 times.............this time I only had 2 of the 3 answer messages. So left them a second message but added i'm having an operation tomorrow so won't be contactable for the next few days - which is true i'm going in tomorrow morning so i wasn't fobbing them off!
That was early in the afternoon and i had no call back so I dunno, i'm not as bothered about it as I was before............

.......well maybe just a bit lol, I just wish I knew what it was about is all!!! :rotfl:

Chances are there was a till discrepancy at the end of the day and your account number was one that it might have been. Assuming you've checked your online banking and all is in order, the fact that they haven't got back to you suggests they've found the difference so there's no need to worry.

Well the person i needed to speak to rang me twice today and left 2 messages, one for me to call her back, the other saying the letter was just a courtesy letter to see if there was anthing more she could do for me and my banking with them and it was nothing at all to worry about. so prob was gonna try sell me sumthin if i went in lol.

So issue solved!! Kinda! Am still gonna go see them just cos its been 6 years since i last did but not for a good while, espesh since I had an operation today and cant open my mouth let alone discuss my money situation lol!!

Thanks for all your input guys!

A classic personal banker 'I need the sales but don't like Telecaps' letter.

Not sure if they still use Telecaps, but it was a system that would pull off all the customers who could be sold to i.e. pre approved loans, Additions accounts etc...

Your lucky, I remember some customers getting loan applications sent to them even when they had not asked!
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

Does Telecaps just print letters out to potentials then?? I used to get them actually loan applications from Barclays, still get Barclaycard offers too despite my having a massive bill on my credit card, bonkers!

I'm surprised that with all the consumer awareness efforts with regards to identity theft and fraud that financial companies still contact you asking to call an random number or asking YOU to prove who you are to THEM.

Egg (like all credit cards) have security measures in place that alert them to unusual activity on a card; but with Egg you get an automated call that you have no way of authenticating that begins by asking you to "prove who you are" by way of requesting various account information.

"Courtesy" usually means they want to sell you something.
