Random Barclays letter....

Recieved in the post today a letter from Barclays dated 24th Feb 09, It wasn't on headed paper just regular (quite naff) printer paper and there were a suprising amount of typos and repeated lines. Also all the letter asked me to do was call a number to talk to a Personal Banker. No reference number nothing to indicate what it was in relation to or anything, literally nothing!!
It simply said "Would you kindly contact Miss ***** ********* on 01685 303909 at your earliest convenience on 01685 303909 at your earliest convenience" (a typo even I wouldn't make!!).
If i am with a customer and not available, would you kindly leave a number and when I can contact you as soon as possible.
Would you kindly quote any reference on my letter when replying."
Now I'm just curious to know if anyone else has had letters from banks that aren't on offical headed paper? Is this just something that banks do cos I imagined that they'd always be headed paper or is it just my thinking:rolleyes:?
I'm going to try the number tomorrow even though I cant find it anywhere online (its 01685 303909) (my guess is banks hide branch numbers to stop being plagued by people!)
I don't mind calling or seeing them so long as its genuine obv, I'm just a bit confused why there was literally nothing to connect the letter to me other than my name, address and the fact I bank with Barclays?
Can anyone advise if this is the norm for branch contacting customers??
Thanks!!
Jem

Don't phone the number, take the letter into your local branch and deal with it face-to-face ... this way, if the letter is dodgy, you are alerting them to the fact and they can see the letter straight away etc0

So a letter came to your house with a phone number stating for you to ring them because of something they want to know....
Its more than likely a scam.0 -

That I will, I can't get to my local branch mind cos i work in a different town altogether and can only go to a branch in another town! Though I imagine if it's genuine then there wont be a problem and they can confirm it for me at the other branch?Debt which IS NOW GONE before 31.12.2011: CC - GONE!!! :j Loan: GONE!! :j

01685 303909 appears to be Barclays in Merthyr Tydfil.
Found it on saynoto0870.com.
Also that is what the answerphone message tells you when you call the number!

Definately looks dodgy
edit: in light of the above post - I guess they don't train their staff very well there....0 -
I bet they want to contact you to sell you something and perhaps the phone numbers they hold are not up to date.:hello:0

Do nothing, sounds dodgy. If it's important they'll contact you eventually.0
