As privateSeller said - too many regs, not enough enforcement.
?? There's only one set of Regs, and if you contact the right people - the enforcement can be pretty stringent, as, unlike breaches of other planning legislation, a breach of the advertising regs is a criminal offence.

I was just having a general moan that there's too many laws in this country, really. Effective enforcement would involve regular tours of the borough by the planning department, taking down details of the signs - a bit like a parking warden. I agree that's not the most glamorous planning job, and I don't suppose that you studied for years to be allowed to do that.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

When we bought our house, the EA sent someone round to take down the sold sign. Which in fairness they did, but left the for sale sign that was underneath it up. Got a bit of a shock to come home and see our new house was for sale again!
  • Hope you don't mind me resurrecting this thread, but I just (belatedly) spotted this item about Harrow council clamping down on 'phantom' Estate Agent for sale signs.

If Planning_officer is watching, it's noticeable that the report says that: "councils will make use of the Responsible Retailer Agreement, introduced last year................". No mention of illegal advertising or planning breaches.
