About a month ago I posted a thread asking advice on telephone connections as I didnt want to go through BT.
I left it as it was due to money constraints but would now like to get broadband in.
Has anyone had any luck getting SKY to install a telephone line if you aare already a a customer with TV? I would like sky bb but I currently dont have a landline and dont want to go through BT. I know the PO is an option but I would prefer SKy.
Thought Id ask before I try and get through to them as its expensive on a mobile.

You shouldnt have a problem getting Sky to install a landline, just ring them. Not sure how much it is though, there was a time a little while ago they were installing them free. Ask about this also. They will always do a deal.
If you tell them you are on a mobile but on limited funds they may well ring you back.
I have Sky telephone line at £10 per month for the line, free evening and weekend calls, free broadband, together with Sky basic should cost you
£16.50 and £10.00 for the line
By the way, do you know anybody who has Skytalk now as call to them are free for
Skytalk customers.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks for the info. Ill reing them tonight, post on here tomorrow what happens. I normally dont get anywhere with SKY like.0

Plead poverty, haggle, like i say they are always open to a deal.
I rang up to cancel a couple of packages which i didnt knw where only a £1 each, I ended up getting my line rental free for 3 months and £15 off my charges for the next 3 months. I was a bit shellshocked to say the least.
Good luck

Funny you should say that cos Im also ringing to cancel the kids and the lifestyle (uk food etc) packages as I never watch them and its £2 a month better off in my pocket.
Maybe if I say that Im cancelling them to save money for broadband they might offer somat.0 -
they were doing free installs last month, i ordered it, but they didn't turn up, or tell openreach to, on the dates they gave me, they even forgot to turn up to install my sky dish!
ended up cancelling it and getting bt instead for £30
good luck on getting through to a correct department, and insist on telling them a friend as just been installed for free, because most who i spoke to said they didn't install at all!0 -

Just say that you are cancelling to save money, dont say for broadband cos broadband with sky is free
Thats exactly what i did and got loads off, i think i ended up about£75 better off over 3 months.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I wish. Come live in the country where only 'connect' is available!anniehanlon wrote: »Just say that you are cancelling to save money, dont say for broadband cos broadband with sky is free
In any case, is it free to anyone when you have to maintain a Sky TV subscription (at least £16.50/month) in order to get it?
And don't you have to have Sky Talk too?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

On the other hand, if you're already a willing subscriber to the Sky TV service, why not take their broadband and phone service if it will cut your costs?
I may be wrong, but I think the marketing and the T&Cs make it quite clear that these services are only available to subscribers whilst a TV subscription is maintained.
I got 12 months free line rental & 6 months free Sky Unlimited when I rang up last week to switch to Sky Talk. That's £180 worth of cost savings over the next 12 months. My Sky Broadband Mid stays at £5 a month. Absolute bargain - however I'm totally aware that I'm only getting these services at these prices whilst I keep a TV subscription. But hey staying is the new going out!
PS. Point taken about the Connect service!0 -

How did you manage to get 12 months line rental free?
I am geting Sky telephone line install on Thursday. Sky is sending
Openreach to come and install the line. Hopefully they will turn up
and carry out the work. I took on the offer in February, I am not
sure if this offer still stand on free line installation. Sky already
credit my account with £30 for the 3 months free line rental.
Once my line is active I should also get £30 for the unlimited
free BB for 3 months.0 -

I am an existing Sky customer. TV package since May 2002. Broadband since July 2006.
I called up to "discuss some cost reduction measures". The guy I spoke to called up my a/c details. We kicked around the idea of possibly dropping one or more packages, but I showed little interest. Then I asked about Sky Talk and asked if there were any customer offers. He said I'll have a look, and then he just came out and offered me 12 months line rental for free. Now we're cooking with gas, I thought! My next question was about call packages. He then offered me Sky Talk Unlimited free for 6 months. Result.
Of course, this was my desired outcome from the start! I had read on this and other forums about people securing a similar deal. So I decided to try my luck...
I guess it all depends on when you call, who you get to speak to, how the conversation goes etc!0
