I am sorry but if ever i have seen desperation that sign is it. It reminds me of reading the local rag and they ran a story from an EA saying 'now is the time to buy while these crazy bargains can be had'.

No thanks, i'll show you crazy in 2010...................;)

Winnington is about a mile from Northwich, where the Salt Museum is.
Winnington Works, though it is now a chemical plant, used to produce brine.
    I rest my case.

Rest what case?do you know the process?you need to study more,Brine is salt+water.
Hence the salt is mined at WInsford.

Oh dear, you must be someone with advanced Googling powers, or a local who has taken offence.

I don't believe I ever denied the mining of salt at Winsford. I am not in Winsford salt-denial. I merely thought it safe to assume that Winnington, being the site of a former brine works, and just down the road from the Salt Museum, had a modest link with salt.

Sorry to upset you like this.
  • Actually, Davesnave & ess0two, you're both correct.

Winnington began life as Wina's Town which subsequently changed its name to Wenitone and later Winnington.

Winsford began life as Wina's Ford.

Winnington for years was the home of ICI's salt mining works. Winnington is based in Northwich and the word 'wich' means salt. There are many other examples in the area, e.g. Leftwich, Middlewich. Northwich is located 7 miles from what was King Canute's Ford (later changed its name to Knutsford).

Winsford is nowadays the biggest salt supplier in the country.

The word 'salary' is derived from salt. Clearly Coulby Conduct haven't been seeing much in the way of a salary recently, hence their desperation.
