WinFixer2005 - Help Please!!!

Options
Whenever I do a Spybot Search and Destroy this comes up and it won't fix it when I press "Fix the Problem".

This is what it says:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WinFixer2005 Registry Key

I've run:

Microsft Defence
Ad-aware
Acelogix

and it still comes up on Spybot. Adware said everything was removed, Acelogix said everything was clean, but then I ran Spybot and it still came up.

Any ideas please? Is this WinFixer 2005 dangerous? I'm concerned due to the fact that I'm a technophobe, so am worried what it is doing to my computer.

Thanks! :smileyhea

The following is typical for the results on a search for removal instructions.

Have you run the programs in normal Windows or Safe Mode ? I have found in the past when running in Safe Mode, ad-aware and spyboot can remove more items easily.

If you're not sure how to access safe mode, reboot the machine and when it gets past the initial boot screen (before it starts loading Windows) start repeatedly pressing the F8 key and it should give you a black screen with several options, one being Safe mode.

ANYONE WITH WINFIXER .... FOLLOW THIS ADVICE.

The likelihood is that it won't remove Winfixer or Winfixer2006 but it will go a long way to cleaning your system.

At the end you copy & paste your HJT log to a new topic in this forum.

You will get advice on what to do from there.

Note ... the Vundoifix is PART of the process to remove Winfixer. There will be other files etc. around your system that need manual removal once they have been identified.

    Thanks for all your replies.

I did do my scans in safe mode for those that asked. I've run a lot of those scans and it's still coming up in Spybot (safe mode) as WinFixer 2005!

The damn thing won't go!!!!!!!!!

I was going to say the the HijackThis report is only going to confirm that Winfixer2005 is getting run, but I have stumbled across a thread on the Spybot fourms that states Spybot is sometimes getting a 'false positive' for Winfixer2005.

    See: Spybot Thread - Winfixer2005

So you may not have it at all - and the lack of any evidence in the HijackThis report would confirm the case.

    what hijackthis report???

he has not posted one !!!!

and PChelpman has asked if he actually carried out ALL the steps in this thread

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=133269

if the original poster updates his Sptbot definitions and does a rescan if it is clear then it is a false positive, if not then he needs to follow all the steps above, and then if still infected then they need to post a hijack this log for pchelpman to check

    Hi

Sorry for being so thick .......... but what is a HijackThisReport?

Where do I get that from? This is the report you wanted me to post to you isn't it? Could someone please explain?

Thanks. I'm rather thick when it comes to computers! :o
