I look at it as every repo that is sold is sold cheaper which brings down prices overall in the area.
They are setting the new levels of prices...

    yeah you are right poppysarah

    we have to think positive

but how much longer are prices going to continue to fall (supposedly)

because i sense the media are starting to lighten things on the house fall front and when they start telling people prices are no longer falling - thats what will happen

The biggest issue there is is our leader Gordon thinks he can lend his way out of this debt crisis.

He's so desperate to save the banks lending business he's ignoring the fact there will be no industry or manufacturing left in the UK.

It's seriously worrying that this man is in charge of the UK.

If he'd propped up genuinely worthwhile industrys (And I don't mean car industry at all) then I'd think he had some sense. But he's basically paying our great great grandchildren's inheritenace out to these bankers.

i agree, the man is out of control.

yesterday it was reported that unemployment levels are slowing but how can that be true? with retail and manufacturing more or less coming to a halt

I'm so sorry you didn't get the house but there will be others and prices are going to go one way and thats down! I was in a similar position and was outbid on a repo but once it happens and the house is sold you'll start to look at other houses for sale. I would try and ear mark several properties in your local area rather than get attached to one.

I have told this story before but here goes again:

Went to buy a house 20 years ago - my OH loved it and wanted it all costs. It never happened. She cried her eyes out like it was the last house in the world.

Six months later we bought a different house - bigger, cheaper, better location, more potential and now looking back worth a lot more than the other house.

Moral of the story - if its meant to be it meant to be - if it does not happen its for a reason.

True, I would hate for anyone to spend the next decade grieving over a house that was sold 20 years ago:(. What happens is you really like a house but its just "not for sale".

    thanks besonders

I would just like to know what is happening to other people who are trying to buy at the mo. The first 4 bed detached we liked was up at 165k i know it has been on the market for at least 9 months, they have now added incentives to this (eg 5% cashback on completion) but as we ftb with a large-ish deposit i would just knock that off the price so that brings it down to 157k. When we offered 145k estate agent just blurted out a load of sh*t basically. So are what point are these people going to sell.

I think a 4 bed detached (they bought in 04 for 115k, prob worth 169k peak of 07 so 145k is a fair amount)

Topkat.. Post Offers Through The Door If Ea Wont Send Them...pt some market imfo in ect ect...scare them
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

sad to hear you didnt get the house i had subscribed waiting to see the i've got it! post.
I have to agree with the others to say something else will be along. Without trying to bore you, we were looking back in sept 2007, we both liked this house lovely 3 year old georgian style 4 bed house up for 420k, paid for a survey and they accepted a higher offer, we couldnt match it and we were at our max then. so we were upset, decided to rent as not to lose our buyers and we didnt know what was just around the corner. The housing market dropped, and we were renting and the upshot is that we are now in the process of buying a much bigger house, better location which was way out of our budget in 2007 by 50+k. Oh and the house that we liked first, it went on rightmove last week for offers in excess 320k!!! nearly dropped a letter through the door saying i'll give you 250k but didnt want to rub the peoples nosies in it who gazumped us!

i truly believe in fate... good luck

dont worry topkat, prices are gonna fall for a year MINIMUM.

theres always a number of positive stories even during the biggest downturn.

my friend last week said to me prices are rising again, he was referring to the halifax index.

but in reality with the halifax index there have been about 16 monthly drops and 2 monthly rises in the last 18 months. does that tell you theyre dropping or rising?

look at the bigger picture, dont be swayed too much by one article or one estate agent etc... something im trying to learn myself!
