I'm thinking it's a good thing my Dog hates others or who knows lol
  • Dennis99 Your pub is beautiful or should I say handsome. :) I do envy anyone with a dog at the moment since losing ours it's horrible coming home and there being no pet in the house to make a fuss of.
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

  • looks like puppy scams to me - please go through a reputable rescue, these places are full of scammers and backyard breeders
  • Thanks F.O. but can you explain a little bit more for me please. I don't understand what is meant by scam.

We have decided to go to a couple of local rescue centres on Friday to have a look and I'm also off to dog training with my sis in law on Saturday as there is a lady who is training a rescued grey hound.

  • Good luck at the rescue centres!! you may also want to put a 'home offered' thread on dogpages...

Whatever you do, please be patient, take your time to look around and use a reputable rescue, and do not fall for people selling/giving away pups on the internet. At best they are unethical breeders, with dogs probably kept in a little filthy shed with no love and no life, often they are just scammers.

Have a look at this thread -

Two husky pups should command a good price, as they are a desirable breed at the moment (till people realise they need 5 mile daily on lead walks and send them off to rescues at ten months old!) .. so, "free to good home - ready to be transported"... rings so many warning bells. You should never get a pup that would be sold like this anyway, for the pups sake.

They will take your money for the 'transport' and probably more whe you get a phone call saying the pups are stranded en route due to a problem with the train or courier and more money is needed to get them safely to you... but, there will never be a pup, it's all a fiction.

Here is the text of the ad just to clarify -
phifer and luk are just those perfect house pets who come in
in to complete your family.they are just 6 weeks old but already have developed their own personality, and character.
they areok with kids ,other pets andk cordial to strangers.
these huskies are on their last shots and are ready for shipment, and will come with all their papaers.
    Price: £0.00

... it is all rubbish, and the writing is dreadful and probably not UK english (how often do we say 'cordial' unless we mean orange squash!)

    for example -

6 weeks - far too young to be away from mum. 8 weeks is ok.
perfect house pets - pups are never perfect house pets, they are a lot of work and this is a beautiful but very demanding breed!!
developed their own personality - no they haven't, sorry!
areok with kids ,other pets - they are puppies, thay have no clue what these things are yet!!
cordial to strangers - all humans are stranger to them!
these huskies are on their last shots - not at 6 weeks they aren't!!

The scammer is probably not even in the UK, most likely Nigeria, which to be honest looks likely, from the use of english in the ad. Steer well clear!

    best wishes,
    fc

  • I also notice that they are selling 'CUTE LOOKING JACK RUSSEL PUIPPIES '

they claim that "THEY HAVE A VERY CONTROLLABLE TEMPERAMENT" -:rotfl: really?? super dogs, but that is not exactly how anyone who has ever had a jack russell would describe them!! :rotfl: (wilful little blighters - maybe, entertaining - definitely - but not controllable!!)

Also that "THEY GET ALONG SMOOTHLY WITH OTHER HOME PETS."
    :rotfl:
... they were bred to catch rats!! Not saying they cannot learn in time, but it's not generally their character!

    Definitely a scam!!

The web site is just too good to be true. I have never heard of anyone giving away a a pedigree dog before for free so I did wonder what was wrong. Thanks for the explanation.

I need a dog that is ok with other dogs as my brother has 3 and we walked mine and theirs together. Also a dog that doesn't need walking for 2 hours a day because I am actually disabled with a walking stick but on the days I can't walk I have back up with my brother and his family and also my son. We live in a terrace house so not a large dog, so maybe a medium/small dog. A dog for children is not necessary but would definitely be considered. We just want a dog who we can love and who hopefully will love us back, and we would love a pup or up to 2 years old. I hope I don't soumd picky

    Any recommendations?

A dog that doesn't need much walking? Sounds like you need a retired greyhound. Going by what I have read on these forums they are canine couch potatoes
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

I am sorry to hear about your loss but well done for deciding to get a resuce dog.
Try your local Dog Warden they will tell you who they take their stray dogs to and they will offer you a pick of them. Any dog picked up from most of these kennels after 7-14 days are offered to various dogs homes and if they won't take them in are mostly put down. Just be warned that most councils now take dogs to commercial kennels who will expect you to pay at the very least the boarding fees that the dog has chalked up. Or you could try Dogs Trust or RSPCA they both have very good websites which explain the adoption process and Dogs Trust lets you register on line so when you turn up at the home they already have your detials.
By the way there are a lot of Staffordshire Bull Terriers who are looking for homes. There are so many that many dog wardens don't even bother trying to get them homes and will automatically put them down. Simply because no-one will take them in. I have a Staff and if you get over some peoples misconception (expect some people to gather up their children and run down the road when they see your dog walking down the road) they are very loyal, sweet and adoreable dogs. Also be prepared to give up your sofa and bed to a huge lump who will get comfortable and then its your turn to try and get comfortable on the edge of the sofa you have been left.
