Rescue Centers

Can anyone tell me wheere I can rescue a puppy from please? My dog of 14 died this morning at approx 4.30am. We are not lookin to rush into anything just yet, we need to grieve, but we would like a pup if possible or a youngish dog which no one wants. So if anyone has any website links could you post the links please so we can go and see them. Oh and we live in the north west, Greater Manchester/Lancashire area. TIA
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

so sorry to hear about your dog and well done for offering a home to a rescue dog.

Theres a couple of rspca centres in the greater manchester area. just go to the rspca website and you should find them from there.

Manchester also has a dogs home...

Sorry for your loss, RIP to your Dog :!!

You could sign up on the Dogpages forum, they have Rescues + Private rehoming for all areas & lots of Pups
  • Thanks for the web sites. I'm absolutely devastated my dogs gone but it was the right choice, she would have suffered. We've had a dog in the house for 14 years and it seems so strange without her, there's a piece missing. She was a good dog with a wonderful personality and now shes gone she can start a new (kind of) life.

  • So very sorry to hear about your dog, it is always such a wrench when they die, I was shocked at how pset I felt when my last old dog went. What sort of a dog was she?

Here is a list of rescues in your area:
    http://www.dogpages.org.uk/nth-west.htm

The good news (for you, not so good for lots of dogs!) is that many rescues have record numbers of dogs and pups coming in at the moment, so there should be plenty of choice!

It's wonderful you have decided to look in rescue first. I love this poem, it made a lot of sense to me when my old dog died, and we adopted her sucessor, Badger (see my avatar!)

    A Dog's Legacy (anon)

When humans die, they make a will
To leave their homes and all they have
    to those they love.
I, too, would make a will if I could write.
To some poor wistful, lonely stray
    I leave my happy home,
My dish, my cosy bed, my cushioned chair, my toy.
The well loved lap, the gentle stroking hand,
    the loving voice,
The place I made in someone's heart,
The love that at the last could help me to
    a peaceful painless end
    Held in loving arms.
If I should die, Oh do not say,
"No more a pet I'll have,
to grieve me by it's loss"
Seek out some lonely, unloved dog
And give my place to him.
This is the legacy I leave behind -
'tis all I have to give.
  • She was a Lhassa Apsos, honey and white. I can't replace her so I think it will be a different breed. I'm happy to take a rescue dog, I just cannot understand why people buy them and then throw them out. The poem is lovely :)
