First time on the grocery challenge. Final shop of my month today (results below). I failed miserably but I will be trying again for April. Mrs Mc please could you put me down for £180 for April.

In preparation for my second try I have done a new monthly meal plan beginning with a roast chicken which I am hoping to sttrreettcch like everyone else seems to do with a roast dinner, a chicken pie, chicken curry and chicken soup made using the carcass.

Thanks to everyone for all the helpful hints and tips and good luck for April.

Ok that's my month up and I'm under by £22.15 which I'll add to my savings and adjust my holiday pot at the beginning of April when I get all my MS payments and cashback.April is still a 4 week month for me so I'll stick with £340 mrs M thank you.I've got quite a lot of meat left ,free range tamworth and mutton so shouldn't be too expensive for Easter meals.I'm off for a short break at the beginning of the school hols courtesy of the travelodge sale cheap and fun.Plenty of picnic lunches and free entry attractions so will probably splash out on a buffet dinner one night.happy shopping everyone.

Have to confess that my Budget has been blown out of the water completely - the family decided to spoil me for Mothers Day, not realising that I only had less than £14 left, they visited the Butchers and bought sausages, bacon etc for a cooked brekkie and a leg of Lamb and then off to the Supermarket and bought lots of different goodies, I don't even know how much they have spent in total but all I can say is they waited on me all day yesterday and it was lovely - I can't declare a total for this month now so apologies and I promise it was a "one off".:o Also, to top it all off, DD1 handed me a list of ingredients that I had to buy this morning ready for Food Tech tomorrow so I've been fighting a losing battle.

After the above confession, I have now managed to get a hold of the receipts and totted everything up:eek:  , also had to buy some more Fruit & Veg this week and yet more milk which has now made us well over Budget for this month £289.73 for March - decided that it's not a failure as imagine what it would be if I wasn't keeping an eye on things, that's my reasoning anyway.:o

My new month starts tomorrow, so onwards and upwards.

Dinner tonight is a Sausage Casserole in the Slow Cooker at the moment, a potato and onion layered bake, carrots and green beans.;)

Good luck to those that have still to declare.:D

Ok so having gone WAY over this month with having done a ridiculously massive shop at the weekend I've decided that most of that will go to April's budget. So now I need to sit down and work out the numbers before I declare.

For April I'm going for my usual £40 budget thanks. :)

Spent another €5.99 today....€4 for a dozen free range eggs and €1.99 for 2 litres milk...bringing my total spend so far to €282.71...so much for being way under budget this month...having trouble with DD4 and OH...they don't like eating food that has been frozen so I am having to do a bit of secret freezing to keep the prices reasonably low....which is nearly impossible here at present.

hi fellow challengers im just curious to know if anyone else thinks that the prices in lidl are creeping up slowly?
many thanks and good luck to everyone with this months challenge:T :T
I thought that too! Thought it was just me - Ive taken to shopping in different supermarkets for different things - annoying but saves a bit. I always thought Lid was pretty good price wise but like you Ive noticed a few things creeping up esp tinned stuff which used to be cheap as chips!

you will always be rich enough to be generous.
  • Hi all
    :D
I am declaring a spend on groceries for four, £219.00. I am amazed as this is the lowest we have ever been. It might have been helped with dh having to work away 2 weeks of this month and being too poorly to eat when home, however I am very happy at coming under for the 2nd month.
Please keep us at £250 for April too as trying to get used to maintaining it like that with dh being back. I am learning about using food that you have, not throwing anything away and 'concoting' lol., using ingredients you have.

Good luck you all with the rest of March and all the best for April, c u there.

    Mr and mrs t :D
