  • Cathy, what competition did you win your xbox from, was it the Times One? Argh the suspense! I'm going to be on the phone to them tomorrow!

Since getting back from Oz i've got the travel bug so currently i'm planning a bit of a gap year/6-9 months and for part of it i wanted to volunteer either in South America or Africa and after watching comic relief i think it's going to have to be Africa, such terrible stories.

  • Hello all!!

Well, I left my stew in the slow cooker overnight so I assume it's now cooked but I thought the stock would thicken into a nice sauce....what am I doing wrong? :(

    Morning all,

Flickering, yo can usually cook meat on a automatic or high heat in 4hrs. Are you trying to cook too much, what was you trying to cook yesterday and how much stock did you put in, did the stock cover the meat?

Happy Birthday to tonis OH, hope the cake is nice?

  • Hello all!!

Been out and about, and got tonight's dinner of game stew on the slow cooker.

Got: 2 packs of diced game (venison, pheasant and partidge), 4 carrots, 10 potatoes, 3 parsnips, 2 pints of vegetable stock, 1 large onion and 2 handfuls of spinach. :D

Cathy, this is it. Took 17 hours to cook.
  • I had it on high for 12 hours, and on medium for the first 5.

Now I know why, it would take 17 hrs, I think you are putting too much in, you have enough stock, but think it is the ingredients you are going overboard on, try cutting down me personally I would have done one pack, half the veg, I would have put it on in the morning and it would have been ready by about 3/4 o'clock.

    hope it helps

  • Thanks, I will try making less, but I thought the point was you make a big batch, enough for several days?

Also, how do you get the stock to thicken in general? I use cornflour in gravy at times but I don't know here....I've only used my slow cooker twice!!
