    Foundation degrees attract student finance, foundation courses don't as they are a lower level. Is she studying two years at Bradford College and a final year at Leeds Met? Is the course full-time and leads to a full honours degree?

    You should not be applying for your daughter's student finance. She will require a loan, much like a bank loan, and needs to understand the implications for paying back etc. You and your husband will need to support the application by supplying information about your income, however.

    Could you clarify what course she's on. She shouldn't be doing a BTEC (National) after a Foundation course. Is she doing a degree?

    thanks for all the replys...

    the course she is on now is;

    BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design

    the course she is applying for next is;

    Fine Art BA (Hons)

    the new course will be a 3 year one....

    i do her applying for her cos she asks me to as she really is hopeless at written work, etc.....and never has the time to sit and do it anyway...but, i do it with her permission and i go through it with her before i send it, etc....

    thanks all

    She needs practice at doing written work.
    You are not helping her, in the long run, by doing it for her.

    Ahh, now we know she is doing a BA then she can apply for finance at https://www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance

    I would recommend you submit the form ASAP. You will also need proof of all your income for the 07/08 tax year (pay slips, proof of certain benefits, interest from savings, etc.)

    I would strongly suggest your daughter actually applies for the finance (it can be done online) even if you help her fill in the form - as she is one who will be paying it back!

    absolutely agree with bruceybonus on this one.

    Much criticism is made of younger people getting into debt due to ignorance...therefore if she takes ownership NOW of her financial situation with her student loans etc you will have supported her in attaining valuable life skills.

    Not many peopel like form filling but is a necessary evil of life unfortunately!

    Don't forget, she's going to be borrowing thousands to do her degree and she needs to understand what she's doing and the implications of it.

    Sorry to disappoint you but this is a level 3 course so its FE not HE - Student Finance Direct will not fund it.

    You may qualify for EMA though.
