    Hi guys,

has anyone come across the Will Writing Company based in Stony Stratford? The put a letter through our door offering free wills because they want to increase their client base from 8000 to 12000 by the end of 2010. They say they only charge £200 if we want them to store the will for us. I have looked on both the Society of Will Writers and the Institute of Professional Will Writers website but they are not listed. Which? recommends good will writers should be a member of one of these institutions - not sure whether their not being listed is something I should be worried about as they say they have been trading for 18 years.

Just wondering whether anyone has had any dealings with them and can vouch for them as we have made an appointment to see them to make a will but don't want to bother if they're not kosher and the will is invalid.

    Thanks.

    Hi RenStar,

I had that letter through my door in January, though no mention of a £200 storing fee. On the letter I received, about the increase in client base they say, "We would appreciate your help in doing this and guarantee that this is a genuine free offer to Oldbrook residents only". Maybe there wasn't enough take-up in Oldbrook and they've spread further afield?

Not sure this is helping you make your decision and I don't know anything more about them, sorry.

Would you go with them if they were charging £200 for the Will and storing it for free?

Because that is what the offer is.

If you pay £200 for them to store the Will - what happens if they go bust tomorrow. What happens to your £200 - and, more importantly, what happens to your Will?

As this company is not a member of one of the established bodies which regulate will-writing, you have no way of knowing the competence of the firm and who have no means of independent redress if anything goes wrong.

If they have been going for 18 years and only have 8,000 clients, sounds like they are struggling and this could be a last throw of the dice.

    Your call.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Liz - this isn't the first time we've got the letter either, I remember getting something from them in November last year during the Free Will Month. Our letter says its a genuine free offer for Emerson Valley residents only :rotfl: - guess we're not that special after all! It was when I rang them and asked what the catch was that he told me about the £200 storage fee.

Baggysdad - you make some very good points - no I guess we wouldn't pay £200 for a mirror will and you're right, their not being members of any of the established bodies is a cause for concern, especially since they have been going for 18 years! I guess we thought we could refuse their offer to store the will for us but not sure how easy that would be.

Ah well, if it looks too good to be true and all that.........

On that note, can anyone recommend a reputable firm in MK to get a will done?

    Thanks again!

    R

Help - A piece of my already filled back tooth has come away (thanks to some Thornton Toffee).

My current dentist has said my 2 options are a metal band to support the tooth at £195 on the NHS or a private crown at £350.

I have no idea if this is a reasonable cost, but it sounds very high to me.

Can anyone help with details of another dentist or at least let me know if this is reasonable.

    Thank you

Don't have any details of MK dentists (although can recommend Grange Park dental surgery in Northampton which isn't too far). I had a similar problem recently and had an NHS crown for £200.
    Now proud Mumto3 :j

If you pop over to the Health forum http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=81 . There are dentists there that might advise you.

I was wondering if anyone in the local area has had any paint work done on their cars? I need a bonnet painted on my BMW. Possibly the bumper and wings too. Has anyone got any recomendations? I have had a paint job done before on my mini but the painter was terrible and I'll never use them/recommend them to anyone. Hopefully you guys have had better experiences.
