I am an existing Lloyds Mastercard holder and received a mailshot from Lloyds offering me an American Express Rewards card with 0% Balance Transfer for 9 months and no fee, I duly applied.
On receiving my card and I called to activate it and make a BT only to be told that as an existing Lloyds customer I was not entitled to the 0% rate.
I asked why would they send me the offer if I was not entitled to it, to which they couldn't give me an answer, they have referred it to another department and I am waiting an answer.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Have a look at my last post in this thread: more than one card from same company?. Check your credit agreement. Having a copy of the application form could be very helpful too.0

On my annual review, my manager told me I had another card availabe to me if I wanted it, I asked what terms, and he said the same as my existing visa.
I applied for it and was given a lloydstsb amex, but when I tried to a balance transfer was told I couldn't and regardless of what I was told in Branch "they apologise" but I can't have any offers as I am an existing cardholder!
I ended up cancelling the card the same day it arrived!!

I've just got off the phone to Lloyds/Tsb after phoning their 0800 number for existing customers who want to apply for the Amex reward card (as on website).
I have a Lloyds Advance cc with nil balance, which is no use to me now as there is no interest free period for spending. It's served it's purpose over the last 8 years but now it has to go.
I've recently reduced the credit limit on it to £5,000 from £10,000. I asked if my current credit limit would be transferred to a new Amex card and she said no, they dont transfer credit limits, it would be a completely new application.
I explained that it says in their t&c that the introductory offers are only available to new customers, but she went off the phone to check and said that I would be able to balance transfer in the first 6 weeks at no fee and at 0% interest for 9mths.
She is sending me the application form to sign and return within 3 days. She also said that if I wanted to close my Advance cc I would have to write to them to do so.
So it doesnt seem that my having a cc with them already is preventing me from the Amex introductory offers, although they cant guarantee what my credit limit will be.
But whatever credit limit they do offer is going straight into the stoozepot regardless.debt free...yippee

When I was offered the LloydsTSB Amex card I had to split my credit limit between them. As the limit was £15,000 I just asked that the Mastercard retain £10,000 and the Amex get £5,000. Didn't think about asking for the 0% transfer!
The ONLY problem is when trying to use the Lloyds Amex card over the internet - when choosing Amex most site require a 4 digit security number whilst the card only has a 3 digit one. Most annoying indeed as I tend to use the Amex card for all purchases each month and pay off the entire balance at the end of the month.

Thanks grumbler.......already checked that thread earlier and most certainly will check the small print before signing. Either way the amex will be better than the advance for me as I'll need another spending card for when my egg money anniversary comes around. You really only got a credit limit of £1 ?? Impossible to spend such an amount! lol!

Hi
Ive just had a similar problem, I already have a lloyds mastercard when they offered me an Amex card with 9months interest free, I was told in the branch that i could keep my original card and have a new amex card, split the credit limit however i liked and still get 9 months interest free on my amex.
Then yesterday I tried to do a balance transfer, but have been told by lloyds card services, that to qualify for the deal i should have cancelled my original card at the time of application.
As far as i can see there is nothing in the brochure that i was given to tell me of this clause.
I've already complained to both card services and my bank manager but they both just pass the buck.
I'm thinking of sending both back and complaining to the banking ombudsman.
Any suggestions ?You can't have everything....where would you put it?0 -

An update from my original post, I've just come off the phone to Lloyds Customer Service and they've said that as the O% deal was sent by Lloyds to me and not initiated by me, and because there literature has no mention of the deal not being available to existing cardholders they have to honour the offer. They did the transfers whilst I was on the phone!0
