I've moved this thread to the Travel, Trips & Holidays Board

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Stayed in the Calais one on a shopping trip when the £ was worth some thing. It was basic, clean and had secure parking. I think they can sleep three in a room.0

I've stayed at the one in Southampton twice. Yes it's cheap, but the beds are like concrete, and that's from someone who can normally sleep anywhere.
I wasn't the only one who thought that as other guests we talked to said the same thing. But if it's just for one night and you're skint then it's worth it.
Continental breakfast, all you can eat, was £2.95 last September/October.0 -
Need to visit my brother in Southampton and the cheapest hotel is either Etap Hotel at £35 or Travelodge at £39.
I've never stay in Etap before but heard it was clean but basic. Is travelodge a much better place or they are pretty much the same not even worth the extra 4 quids?0 -
i've just wasted 5 minutes of my life reading this thread, from MARCH, to realise you were asking a question that is answered in the same thread...Stayed in Southampton last night with work.
Booked in to the Etap Hotel, £35 for the room!! not per person, thought it was a promotional rate, but when I asked they said it's the same price all year round apart from a couple of dates.
they have a few over here, loads in Europe.

Will be staying with them again. Clean basic room, nothing too snazzy, but if you just need a bed for the night it's perfect.0 -

Sorry that your time is wasted. I know Etap is basic but I have absolutely no idea how basic it is compare to travelodge (which is essentially what my question was!!!) I've only stayed in travelodge once and it was very basic to me! I would like to know if travelodge is somehow better/worse or maybe no difference in terms of facilities/space...etc as I might need to stay for over 10 days there.0 -
cyber, check out the website. The room configuration seems to be standard - ie double bed and a bunk over the top, at right angles. Both my kids use them sometimes when all they want is cheap bed (eg after concert/night out) and haven't succeeded with the cheap TL rate.
Personally, I would prefer a TL or HIE.

Definitely Travelodge over Etap. The beds are mor comfortable for a start and the rooms are generally bigger and more comfortable.0

Etap are part of the Accor group of hotels which has Sofitel at the top of their range, through to Pullman, Novotel, Ibis, Etap, etc...Etap, formula 1 hotels in france are a cheap roof over your head, they do the job,

Personally, I wouldn't book one of the few Formula 1 hotels in the U.K., but it's always a good thing when a hotel chain accommodates every single budget out there right from the Sofitel St.James to the Etap Leeds. To me it shows that a company is covering all bases and giving us every option possible. That's good for all of us.
I've made large group bookings for Etaps in the recent past and never had a complaint about them yet because they do what it says on the tin. I can't even begin to count the complaints I've had about Travelodges in the past and there are dozens of threads on this forum about them mainly because we are so familiar with them in the U.K. and we don't like parting with our money in advance for anything.
My point is...we are blessed with a good crop of budget hotel chains in the U.K. who regularly do great deals and provide a decent level of accommodation in city and country locations. We're very lucky in that respect and I will name Innkeepers Lodge and Greene King as two of the better ones to be honest. Hardly see them get a mention here, but they have some great, pub based properties in a good array of locations.0 -
Thanks for the inputs, Etap's website doesn't really say much about the things they provide, I guess it's because they don't provide much. Does anyone know if Wifi is free in Etap? Just realised wifi isn't free in TL.0
