    Come back katie pleeeaaasse! :D:D:D

Sorry, are you say you've opened it with wordpad - did it work? If so are you happy with that?

Did you spot what the file extension was? ('.docx', '.docm', or plain old '.doc' ?)
    (or other?)

Do you know if you were able to open this type of file before?

How are you accessing your email now? Is it through a web page?

We need to know what the extension is katie. Most end in 3 letters
    For example aliEnRIK.exe aliEnRIK.doc aliEnRIK.jpg etc
Whats the extension of the file?
(Right click file and select PROPERTIES)

(RIK - she may have extensions hidden in which case they wont show up in Properties either.)

Katie - if the docs/letters in your My Documents folder show just the name you saved ('invoice' for example) without a little bit on the end (like 'invoice.doc') then you need to -
    * Open your My Documents folder
    * Select Tools > Folder Options
    * Select the View Tab and then
    * Scroll down to the entry that says "Hide file extensions for known file types" and make certain it's NOT ticked.
    * Click on 'OK' button.
All the files should now have a few extra characters on the end (e.g. '.doc', '.txt').
These are the file extensions we've been after and they tell you what type of file it is, as well as telling Windows which program to open it with.
If, as you say, this attachment that you're trying to open is a 'word 2007 macro-enabled doc' then I would think carefully about whether you really want to open it or not. Macros can do some nasty things.
It's also likely that it is a '.docx' file and you won't be able to open it anyway unless you have a recent version of 'Microsoft Word' or 'Open Office'.

Who sent you the email? If it's someone you know then I would email them and ask them to send you a copy of the attachment in another format.

If you don't know who sent it to you then I wouldn't open it at all.
