does anyone know what will happen next once the charges have gone out

Yes, once you report the fraudulent transaction the bank will then cancel your card at your request and issue another one. They will then send you some forms to fill out where you declare that the transaction has not been performed by you or with your consent. A few weeks later you get your money.

I had exactly the same problem with Abbey myself. £102.50 suddenly went missing from my account. I phoned Abbey who told me that the transaction had occurred either on the internet or over the phone to Tesco Home Insurance. I pay stuff like that off in full for the year so there was no chance i had done it. Abbey sent out the forms and cancelled my card as described above. I received my new card a few days later and decided to keep it in the safe at home. Then 2 days later, yet more money goes missing to a website called "Genes Reunited" and "The colour red" neither of which i've heard of before! Phoned Abbey and told them about it and they said the transaction had occurred using my NEW card - the one thats never seen the light of day, the one in my safe! Their solution? "We'll send you a new card"
I was soooo annoyed, especially when the card never turned up! I phoned to ask where it was to be told "we havent issued a new card" I have now taken my money elsewhere where hopefully my finances will be taken seriously.

Just wanted to put point across that if the bank was to allow a debit card payment to be cancelled after it is already authorised then the system wouldn't work and it would be the same as a cheque. I can see it now you walk into tesco to get a weeks shopping and pay the £100 bill with your debit card, because the funds can be recalled in your world you then proceed to leave your shopping in a storage unit in store until 5 days after payment and then return to collect them? just how exactly would this work?

I also hope it gets sorted soon, mate.

I had a similar one although it was for £4700 :) with the Halifax/HBoS/LloydsTsb/Taxpayer whatever they are now...

When I called I was told they recognised it was fraudulent to an online betting company, but because they were so busy it might take a fortnight to send out the claim form. Long story short, they extended my overdraft to £7k, promised I wouldn't get additional charges, and I got a refund after about 4 weeks. They did what they promised but I got no calls/emails to update me.

    Good luck mate.
  • Hi I signed a mobilephone contract with O2 using mobiles.co.uk which is owned by the carphone warehouse. Anyway the phone I got was free and the contract was 20 pound a month for 24 month. The phone came nextday after i ordered it and that was fine, however 3 days later i checked my bank account and seen a debit card transaction from mobiles.co.uk for 69.99 pound !!. This was a shock as I knew the phone I got from them was supposed to be Free. Anyway I phoned mobiles.co.uk up and I was told that a mistake had occured and that they would sent me a cheque but it would take a month to get to me. This was totally unacceptable so I decided to go to my bank HALIFAX. I did this to do two things , 1) stop mobiles.co.uk from taking anymore money from my bank account, 2) ask halifax if they could help me get my money back quicker.
The response I got was complete crap, and it showed me that the banks really dont give a stuff about their customers.
So for the first question can you stop mobiles.co.uk taking anymore money out of my bank account.
Answer :(In a very patronizing voice) NO you must have gave them your debit card details so we cant stop them using it even if you dont authorise the payments. The only way to stop them is to cancell your card.
This I find absurd, that a bank in this day and age cannot stop a company taking money out of my account. Even when I have told them the name of the company, my bank statement showing the 69.99 transaction and expressed to them verbally that I DO NOT WANT THIS COMPANY ACCESSING MY ACCOUNT ANYMORE !!!.
But again their answer was they cant stop any future transactions because I gave them my card details.
As for the second question well I didnt get that far I walked out of the bank because I was sick of the attitude, Halifax have a mojor problem in my opinion when it comes to customer service they did not seem to give one stuff about what I was saying. And I shall be leaving HALIFAX because of this. All I can say is that if that is true and banks cant stop specific companies from debiting your account when the customer asks, then I really dont control my own money in my account and therefore what the hell is the point of having a bank account ?

Don't be so ridiculous, of course they can't stop a specific compny from taking funds if you give them your card details, how many people do you think request this? In the unlikely event of a fraudulent transaction taking place then the bank would be in a position to get the money back but you can't just ask that they stop one company taking funds.

you could however ask them to change your card to just an Cash card and then no one would be able to take funds from your account or ask for a replacement card and don't give mobiles.co.uk the new number.

I've had 3 fraudulent transactions on my Halifax debit card this week. Two were for vodaphone (2 x £30) and one for 89pence in Berlin

Fortunately, they were on my old debit card (just received new one) and the bank have now cancelled it. I buy lots over the net - especially at Christmas so no clue as to how someone has got the details.

Waiting for Halifax fraud team to get back to me. Just grateful it wasn't for a larger sum as I had just cleared a big cheque in that account.
