Fraudulent debit card payment on my bank account

  • I feel your pain Sacko, Ive just had this with Lloyds and i feel like banging my head against a brick wall (i also posted a thread earlier before I had read yours). What really gets me is that I am telling them that these are fraudulent transactions but they say they are powerless to stop them, in the meantime i'm left with no money and they wont even give me overdraft until the payments have gone through.

It seems crazy to me
My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say ;)
    Ignore......check!

Call Abbey and politely insist that if you have to use the extended overdraft you should not be penalised/charged interest.
That way however long it takes to get back your money you will a) have access to the same money you would have had and b) it will not cost you.
Hope it gets resolved - these things can be very upsetting & stressful.

It's also to do with prosecuting the perpetrators (if traced). If the money does not leave your account, no crime has been committed, so they let it go out, the crime is committed and then..... they catch the bad guys.:rotfl:

A crime is committed. An "attempt".

If you go and buy a car for £10,000 - dealer lets you leave with said car and then you ring bank and say I didn't do this and this is clearly fraud - bank cancels payment and you have a free £10,000 car. This is why they can't do it - regardless of the amount if someone has done this then they must have somehow got your details from somewhere. Essentially they need to investigate the claim to ensure it wan't you.

Where have i stated i know the answers?

Implied .... at post #7 ..... that the sound advice given to that point doesn't suit your pre-conceived ideas of how your 'fraud' should be treated? And you continue in the same vein in your subsequent response.

If the data was 'manually' entered then there's a high possibility that it's a simple error, as opposed to fraud. Not too many fraudsters use their victims details to buy readily traceable (and immediately cancellable) insurance! But it's an authorised transaction therefore your Bank will allow it to proceed ... whether you agree, or otherwise.

thanks people. Yes it doesn't stop the money going out and is still as frustrating.

Very upsetting and just feel like punching someone. Someone needs to look into this law because it's the innocent people who suffer.

I have subsequently spoken to the fraud department who have said (as said by MissMotivation) sort overdraft etc after money has gone out.

Sorry if i've got anybodies back up but this is the first tiem anything like this has happened to me, and i was just venting out rather than at anyone. Still cannot believe what we are forced to go through. Reckon my grandma was right when she kept all her money under her bed - don;t trust banks she said!!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

    Thanks for all the comments.

It was the fraud team that told me it was manual authorisation or something similar - but they used the same details on the 24th and on the 25th for two different insurance buys from the same company - seems like blatent fraud to me because i very much doubt they'll get the details wrong twice.

Admiral offer a policy called Multicar - you can insure more than one car on the same policy - they take two different payments if the renewal dates are different (even by one day). That could be why there are two transactions.
