OK but at what point do you have to take responsibility for your own actions?
I'm sorry but the banks/government have made it virtually impossible for people to live without a bank account. The days of getting your wages in a pay packet and your pension/family allowance in cash from the post office are gone. People have been forced into the plastic card culture, an alternative choice is not there. I think with the technology available there should be the facility for a bank account that does not give out cash from a machine if its not in the account, and refuses debit card payments if theres no funds. As I have stated before, the bank does not charge if you try to make a payment by card in a shop and the transaction is refused, so why does it cost any more than that to refuse a dd or so?
I think most of us on here would accept a REASONABLE charge for our transgressions, ie: 10% of the amount over, I wouldnt mind paying £1 if I went over by £10, but having recently been charged £35 for going over 65p, I think the bank staff should wear scarves around their faces and carry a gun!!!!!!

Advice Please!!
We applied to claim back our bank charges for the last 6 years up to june 2006 and forwarded the claim to Nationwide for the following £2323.41 on one account and £3933.03 on another one using your claim templates and interest calculator.
We have received acknowledgement from them that our claim is on hold until the test case is resolved, are we entitled to have interest added from the date of the first charge in 2001 to the date the case is settled or is it just for the period 2001-2006 that we are claiming back teh charges?0 -

But it's the size of the fines that i have a problem with, they are completely disproportional. There must be some reasonable banks out there surely? which charge fair amounts (i wouldn't mind paying for any expense the bank incurred) but the fact that they have turned this into a major money making exercise and bonus builder for themselves makes me sick), if anyone finds one please let me know. i wanna sign up with a decent, honest and honorable company which puts it's customers first.
Barclays bank have reduced their bank charges to £8 per transaction and no more than 5 charges in one day so max charge for 5 items bouncing/making you go over your limit is £40 per day. Oh and they dont charge you that for every day you over its just the once.0 -
When did they do that? I wonder if the others will follow suit? Still more than it costs them, but considerably better than £40 for one!
Interesting indeed.0 -

Personally I would have been prepared to pay £10 to £15 so that could be
worthwile changing banks for.
Make sense for banks to follow suit if barclays suddenly accrue a large amount of new customers.0 -
My son has a claim sitting in Moneyclaim and the date he applied was in June 07. If he is successful will he get the amount he claimed or will more interest be added? Does anyone know??0
