ETA - list of welsh rescues here for you to have a look at - many tears have at least one Golden Retriever in, (Arty), but he needs quite a specialised home as he is nervous, however, may well be worth letting them know you are on the lookout as I am sure they get them in quite often.
Thank you for this post. I have had a look at Arty. A litttle bit concerned as my young nieces will be coming to my house. I think you have to be so carefull with any choice.0 -
Thank you Hethmar for you post:D
I don't mind if the Goldie is a little boy or girl. I have set my heart on a Goldie as that is what my last dog was (not that I am trying to replace her) I am keeping my eyes open if a black flat coated retriever comes up but they are few and far between.0 -
I was wanting to foster and contacted Irish Retriever Rescue, but I wasn't suitable as my fences aren't high enough (some of them are great jumpers apparently). Spoke to a really nice lady there.

I had a man ring me a few weeks back said he had been on several lists for labs for months - amazing isnt it. As it happens there was a nice chocolate boy not far from him on dogpages forum - put them in touch and he had him home the next week. He was thrilled, rang me to tell me all about him

I am just surprised that the dedicated rescues seem to take such a long time to contact people.
Have you put a post on dogpages forum under the home offered board?0 -
Hi WPC, have you considered adopting a failed guide dog? Around a third of dogs don't make it through the rigorous training programme, others are retired early because of problems with health, behaviour etc. It's also possible to adopt an older dog.
I adopted a gorgeous goldie/lab cross aged 18 months from Guidedogs. He was retired due to problems with behaviour (too excitable/anxious). My dog had got quite a long way through his training, but others are rehomed earlier. The process to adopt is quite rigorous, forms to fill in, home visits before & after. I had to wait around 8 months, they match the dog carefully to the family. I paid £200 for my lovely boy. They have labs, goldies & german shepherds.....also crosses between these breeds. All the dogs are neutered & microchipped.
He's well socialised, used to trains, buses & cars, great with children & people. I can take him to pubs & coffee bars & he sits under the table. I do take him to training classes & he's getting less excitable now (just eats everything he shouldn't, i.e. tissues in the street!). I'm so lucky & grateful to have such a fantastic dog & also happy to have supported Guidedogs

Good luck in your search!

Thank you so much, this is something I have heard about and very interested in. Would be happy to pay the £200 as I know it would be put to good use.lifecatalyst wrote: »Hi WPC, have you considered adopting a failed guide dog?
