returning engagement ring- help?

  • As you've had it re-sized, and therefore altered I really doubt the store will accept a return. No harm in asking, but I doubt it! If it hadn't been then there's usually a 30 day or 28 day return period. I used to work for H. Samuel years ago and it was always depressing after christmas to see the amount of engagement rings being returned :(

Just wondered why you (or your OH) actually paid for something that was overpriced and shoddy quality in the first place......

Because he didn't know what he was doing ;)

Had I known he was going to propose I would have sent him off to Hatton Garden!!

As it is, the surprised had been 'ruined' so I browsed eBay for a few weeks and found a ring for £200 less than was worth 3 x as much!

H Samuel ring: 0.4ct, so many inclusions you couldn't even see through the diamond and 18ct yellow gold Paid: £650
My find: 0.49ct, VS1, J colour in heavy platinum :) Paid: £450, worth £1850! Also, the lady I bought it from had had it custom made so hopefully it's one of a kind :D

As a true 'moneysaver' I couldn't allow my bf to be ripped off which is why I made him return it, even though it was 'embarassing' (but who cares, if you save that much money!?)

PS Still together 2 yrs later but wedding on hold as we bought a house together instead :) He got to choose the house though!!

I hope you've whipped him into shape over the last 2 years! :rotfl:

I hope you were gentle with him about returning the ring, I bet he was really pleased with himself when he was planning the surprise.

Your ring sounds nice, I've had a lot of jewellery made in Goa & Sri Lanka.

I had an interesting discussion with a friend of mine who was planning to buy a diamond solitaire for his wife's birthday.
He thought 'biggest is best' until I showed him a 2 carat diamond (with visible inclusions) in a cheap high street jewellery shop (not H Samuels) and then a stunning 1 carat one in a small independent jeweller.
He almost fainted at the difference in price. :rotfl:

Unless you know what your doing and their taste then its a mine field. One thing though because of cartels we are paying 10 -100 times the real value if not more. Have you seen blood diamond? I think its worth making day/weekend out of picking ring.

Value is simply what someone is willing to pay for it - if the main market is willing to pay ~ 1k a carrat then that is what it is 'worth'. Yes the likes of De Beers have huge stockpiles - this is the same as many other things and like those, flooding the market isn't in their interests.

my fiance bought me an engagement ring and as they didn't have one in my size he had to buy one and have it re-sized. He has since proposed to me and has decided he wants to get me a "better" ring, is he still entitled to his money back or an exhange?
    Thanks.

The ring you want returning has been re sized? did i read that the right way.

I should imaging they would say no, its been adjusted etc.

but then again i've not been in that position so i could be completely wrong.
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?
