my fiance bought me an engagement ring and as they didn't have one in my size he had to buy one and have it re-sized. He has since proposed to me and has decided he wants to get me a "better" ring, is he still entitled to his money back or an exhange?
Thanks.

Why did you buy the first ring, surely the first one is the special one and nothing could replace it even if it was 10 times the price.
The ring has been sized (altered) so i woulnt think he could get his money back. Would you buy an engagement that was in effect second hand and pay full price for it. I wouldn'tmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
General rule -unless goods are faulty or not fit for purpose, you are not "entitled" to a refund or an exchange.
Your situation doesn't seem to meet this criteria.
The company may chose to refund/exchange but they are not obliged to.
Best bet is to try and sell the ring (ebay?) and buy a new one from the proceeds.0 -
i'm quite happy with the ring anyway but he still wanted me to ask.
Thank you for your replies.0 -

I wouldn't have thought they'd refund/exchange it as it's been altered, but always worth asking!
Congrats btw! x0 -
Firstly, congratulations.....
Are you talking about a better setting or a better diamond? As the setting has been altered , they probably won't do an exchange. If you are talking about the diamond , you could always ring the store and ask about their exchange policies. If they do have an exchange policy it may only be a matter of days before it expires.

This is one of the reasons why I let my now Mrs pick her own ring - that way she had something she liked and there would be no problem in being measured for the right size. Some may think that doing so takes away the surprise element....well, I'd asked her without a ring in the first place!
If you are happy with it, personally I'd tell him to put his money towards the wedding ring.0 -
My bf returned a ring to H Samuel with no problems. They just checked it was real and gave him his money back
Had the receipt of course.
