Just a quickie (which I hope hasn't been asked before). I've had a Nationwide ISA for a few years now (and would be eligible for a payout if they de-mutualised as I've had numerous accounts with them over the years). I now want to transfer the ISA to an A & L ISA but does anyone know if I can leave, say, £200 in it so that I am still eligible for a payout if it did happen?

Has anybody had trouble transferring an ISA out of Coventry Building Society. My wife and I had identical ISAs with Coventry, both opened in 2000/1. When attermpting to transfer these to Nationwide (for a better rate), Coventry transferred mine immediately but blocked that of my wife's stating that her account had been made inactive since no additional funds had been added to the account since it was opened and that this was a government requirement.

How they could make one account inactive but not another identical one, is baffling and I would be interested to know of anybody else having had the same problem.

My ISA (C&G) changes to 4.3% this year. Is it worth moving to A&L? If I do do I lose the interest I have gained at C&G (paid in June 2006)?

As someone here said as well the bonus goes after a year and transferring wouldnt be worth it once done - Halifax may be better for me then?

Decisions Decisions... knowing me Ill end up staying. Do I need to move before April?

Sorry - so many pages on here wish I had the time to read! :(

No. Interest earned will be added to the trasferred amount.

 Halifax is cutting variable rate in April, but still have fixed rate ISAs.

No. April is a deadline for using £3K yearly allowance only.

I'm pretty you can if you haven't made any payments into it in this tax year. If you have it may be complicated or impossible. You could wait until April 6th.
  • have just checked A& L website - now only showing 4.5% interest rate for their ISA
    I want to...........?

    HI money savers!

I've got a bit confused with ISA's rules.
If I switch from my Natwest Cash Isa opened last year to Bradford and Bingley's
will I lose the allowance to open another MiniCash Isa with NSandI?

    thanks for help;)

After noting Martin's good advice that A&L were offering the most competitive rate on ISA's currently, I applied to transfer mine from "if".
What a mistake! A & L have totally screwed the process up twice now since beginning of April, and I have finally decided to call it a day, cancel the transfer, and stay with " if ". I post this as a cautionary tale.

A&L are currently charging £25 to transfer to a different provider so the 0.05% difference in rate isn't worth it (over a year) unless you have £50,000 in the account, which is impossible.

I also have an Abbey Postal ISA, as I'm sure do lots of users of this forum. I am staying put for now, need something more impressive than 0.05% to shift!!

Is this Alliance & Leicester fee still valid? I don't remember reading about it in the terms and conditions when I transferred from IF to A&L in April this year. Hoping it no longer exists..
  • I currently have a cash isa lump sum with Alliance & Leics which I wish to transfer to Bradford & Bingley. Does A&L charge a transfer fee? If so, how much? Thanks.
