Where to eat in York?
Comments

We like Oscars - tucked behind Mulberry hall off Stonegate. There is GBK near the Museum gardens and I often see bogofs for there on MSE.
For me the treat is Betty`s, last time we had a lovely lunch there for two for £35. That was two mains, desserts with drinks.
I've been to York many times and have never got a foot in the door in Betty's yet! Its always been hammered out with massive queues when i've been

We`ve had better luck, ie 15 minute wait about 2pm. Evenings - vitually no queue at all. Worth the wait

ok this is going to sound stupid but someone will know its name. There is a old church its on a corner at the bottom of the road with habitat and waterstone and on the same road where woolworths used to be which is now the new large boots store, its the road behind bettys.
As you guessed no idea what its called or the street name but really good home cooked food and family friendly. Also everytime we have been there its been really busy and been hard to get a table and full of locals and oddly if you were outside you wouldnt even know it was a restaurant / coffee shop.0 -

It's Spurriergate, which follows on from Coney Street. It's called the Spurriergate Centre and it's in St. Michael's Church.0 -
I recommend McDonalds :-D0

yep jubbergate exists!
Meltons two on walmgate is very good as is cafe no 8 on gillygate.
Dont mind the queues for bettys they go down quickly as it's one of the most reasonably priced place to get a (small) cup of coffee £1.90 when i last went so much cheaper than the starbucks takeaway stuff!0 -

The church is now called The Spurriergate Centre (it's on Spurriergate
which is the extension of Coney Street
). Great salads for lunch, and huge slices of HM cakes. :rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Thanks to you ALL for your replies I now have several options. It sounds like Bettys is a must if we can get in the door!0
