BTW a new thread would have been a good plan rather than exhuming one thats 3 years old but seeing as its your first post you're forgiven.:D

As the wife of a decorator i have got to say my OH used to be extrememely annoyed at being buying their own paint because they invarialbly bought cheap rubbish, and then blamed him if the finish wasnt good. YOu cant make a silk purse out of a sows hear no matter how professional the person is. Even if you want to buy your own paint ask the decorator what kind of paint he uses.
What a nice mum you have.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
If you are satisfied that he/she can do the job and you have seen his/her work and they come with 3* recommends I'd bite their hand off TBH. Frankly it sounds too good to be true and I should get 1 or 2 more to verify it.

WHAT
for a H/S/L plus 8 doors
Christ it's no wonder the trades on it's !!!! with quotes like that, materials will be anything from £60-£100 depends on the size of hall and what colour you pick. So he's working for just over £200 for the best part of a weeks work ?
i certainly can't compete with that.0 -

Its no wonder so many companies are going down the drain with people giving stupid quotes like that!!0 -
That'd be three of us then.

thats a cracking price,i have my own property maintanence business.that price is about 3 days work for one man.If thats not cash in hand hes handing over approx £65 to the taxman0 -
I agree with Mckneff's hubby, I too would never use inferior paint, if a client wants to buy an inferior brand I will talk them out of it, plus the suggesting of having to charge extra for an extra coat soon changes thier mind.:D
BTW I think £355 is too cheap, how can they make a living from that, plus they are supplying the materials.
I can only think they are going to cut corners, ie, gloss straight over the doors, which would be a bad mistake, and try and get away with one coat on walls.
Out of interest.... does this include painting ceilings, spindles frames and bannister?0 -
We are having our hallway, stairs and landing decorated at the moment. We got a couple of quotes which both came in around £800 - 6 days labour at £100 per day, plus materials at c.£200. This is for stripping off old wallpaper, putting up decent lining paper, then painting wall, ceilings and woodwork including banister, skirting, door frames (front and back). Oh, plus it includes redoing our flakey and mouldy bathroom ceiling, so take off a bit for that.0
