    And thats exactlly whats wrong

Muppets use money they dont have, ignore the terms they signed then expect to be bailed out by others.

Heres an idea. Read your terms and follow them and dont blame others for your mistakes.

    Radical I know.

Sometimes going in and talking to someone face to face helps.

When LloydsTSB first introduced their £1 per transaction charge for using your card abroad I got caught out. I hadn't read the notices that come with my bank statement as like most people they are full of small print and I can't be bothered. Anyway I had about £25 worth of these £1 charges. I went into the branch and explained I was unaware etc. and asked if they could waiver them as a good will gesture and they did. It did help that the CSA I first spoke to also didn't know about this £1 charge and she had to speak to 3 people before some said they knew it had been introduced.

I also recently had a £12 late free from PO credit card. My payment had arrived 1 day late. Again my fault as I set the bill payment via Halifax before I went away on holiday and before I had the bill so I guessed the due date based on previous bill. I rang PO and they again refunded the charge.

Sometimes staying calm and owning up to having made a mistake gets you further.

£98 for less than £20 bounced DD is dreadful. Have you asked the Halifax for a free overdraft so this doesn't happen again?

Did you cancel the Direct Debit (Yes or No)
If No, then not having sufficient funds in your account are the reason as to why you got charged. Next time use a account manager or online facility.

You fee does not feed some greedy executive, but keeps my banking cost to a minimum.

Blockbuster isn't through DD, it's by card. So the only way to cancel it is through the website or stop your card and get a new one.

This happened to me too. Damn Blockbuster! I got 2 charges as I didn't realise they were going to charge me twice (£35 immediately, £28 later) for going over once! Halifax is ridiculous with charges, hence why I now check it more than once a day and if I see something over my limit... I transfer money in so I don't get charged!

I guess it's one of life's little lessons, you won't do it again! (hopefully)

Vicallen2004 some people are just plain rude, but that's their problem not yours so just ignore their comments.

You're right, the bank charges you've had are ridiculous, but, unfortunately, we have to grin and bare it until the long, drawn out test case completes.

I realise I should have canceled it and have learnt my lesson

    End of then.

    Your fault like you said.

Guys this forum is to help people and give useful advice, not to talk down to them.
  • Thanks for everyone who has posted kind comments. I appreciate your input.

Like I said in my original post, I knew it was my mistake and I don't need people to point this out to me. I honestly feel bad enough as it is.

It is a lesson learnt and I will go into Halifax and explain to them. I know I have made a mistake and am willing to hold my hands up and pay for this but I find the amount hard to swallow thats all.

That won't work I'm afraid (and nor should it). The old and new cards will be linked to the one current account.

Ignore the sarky ones, it must make them feel better to gloat over someone else's misfortune.

We all make mistakes and we learn from them.

When you go into the Halifax ask them outright if they can see their way to reducing the charge etc. on this one ocassion etc. and smile a lot while looking sad at how much it's cost you! It might work depending on the person involved.
