Your premium can go up different amounts depending on the code - ie where the offence was.
I know that what has already been mentioned is right though - some forces use different providers, that means they might have local to you offices but also that if it's something arranged internally by the force then it will be run where the offence is - if you don't want to do the trip you can always have the points :) And I found it DID make a difference to my insurance premium...
Personally I'd bite the bullet and go sit and look VERY contrite! You've gotten off easy.

If you dont have any points i wouldnt bother going as i dont think my insurance went up much.

The trouble is, with all the cameras there are about these days, you never know when more points might unwittingly be accumulated (especially if you ever go to North Wales where they allegedly have a speed camera disguised in a horse box in a layby!!) and you may regret not doing the course to avoid points whilst you have the chance.

  • do they pu the camera in the horses !!!!?

I thought it was wrong to discise them, i thought they had to be in a visible vehicle unless perminante location....

Beverly you say, Interesting that, as it was here that i went when i picked up the fine. nice little villace just outside called cherry burton. knowing my luck though i'll take the course, a pick up a another fine on the way up,
i have had a previouse fine that i excepted, but this time i really watched my speed all the way there, I even managed to do the 470 miles in one tank, in a toyota celica which averages 32mpg.
now then here comes the math,
now my car holds about 12 gallons of fuel that costs about £45 and is about hmm 45.4249416 liters, now averaging at 32mpg well lets be really generous here and say i averaged 40mpg my total distance would have only been 400 miles, which i think is really good, so if i was really speeding would i have got the extra 70 miles.hmmm!

perhaps i should have got a fine for driving like miss daisy!

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? What are you on about?

Going back to travelling to the 'scene of the crime' my mate, who lives in West Yorkshire got caught speeding in Inverness and they insisted on him attending court (approx 800 miles 16hour round trip). He got three points but as he already had 9 he had to get someone else to go with him and drive him back when he was banned. :D
  • I was in camberly and was able to do it in ealing a 10min drive from my house i would call again and see if you get a different customer service member some just seem to be power hungry and difficult. good luck!

A scheme is underway to allow drivers to opt for courses held more locally in cases where they have been "caught" a distance from home but this involves a process of making the respective course content more uniform. Some forces already operate it but it is still in its infancy and not all are interchangeable yet. If a swap has been declined then you have two options:
    1. Take the course and travel
    2. Decline to attend and the process will (should) revert to you being offered a conditional offer of fixed penalty (£60 + 3 points) with a standard SP30 endorsement code.

If you currently have no points then an SP30 is unlikely to add substantially (if at all) to your premium. The problem is less with the impact of a first endorsement but should you collect any others as endorsements are declarable to your insurers for 5 years.

You may feel that although the taking of a course is more expensive in the short term the absence of the 3 points might ultimately be the cheaper alternative.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

Yes, the number of speed cameras in Wales is ridiculous. When I visited Tenby a few years ago there were so many police waiting to catch me speeding I vowed never to return to Wales. Even though I was obeying the speed limit I was paranoid I may have accidently strayed over the limit and been caught.

I have never been to Wales since, I shall spend my money elsewhere.
