Hi guys, thanks for the welcomes :D

I'm impressed by all the exercise you're doing, being kinda round and lazy myself. I really love swimming, cycling and walking, but a combination of weight gain/serious lack of time, in the past means I'm now really round and unfit, and keep hurting myself cos I'm not good at going slowly :o, so have to stop exercising to let things heal. Stupid, but I will get there eventually, too bloody minded not to ;).

Spud - you have to strap the upper bits down and tie a jacket round the bottom bits...

I keep thinking I would like to start running after reading your stories, but the other day I had to run for the bus and had pain in my shins and sat puffing and panting on the bus all the way into town!

Were any of you like that when you started? What sort of thing did you wear when you first started, was it just jeans and a T-Shirt or did you go straight for the proper stuff? Were you embarrased running on your own?

Spud you know what made me overcome the old "people will be laughing at me" was actually at least I was out there doing something rather than sat in my car driving past. Walking for half an hour 4 times a week will be a great start or how about a swim so there is no pressure to your joints

All the gear, no idea tenmah! LOL.... I wore my jogging bottoms and a t-shirt (but had to invest in a sports bra). I thought I was going to die after one minute of running when I started...if you have pains in yours shins you really should invest in a decent pair of running shoes....

I wasn't embarressed running on my own, more worried about not dying on the spot tbh!

tenmah...yes yes yes that was me this time last year. I couldn't run to the end of the road and was puffing like a billyo. I decided to start at the very beginning and worked up to a mile, then a bit more and more. Yesterday I ran 16 miles...its possible for anyone to do it..if you want that!

    Right Spud,
My bottom shoogled something CHRONIC when I started. Doing a brisk 30 min walk 3-4 times a week will do wonders for you. Sitting on your bottom WILL hurt you in the end-being obsese (which is what I am still!) is the worst thing you can do for yourself.

Listen, what made me move was imagining my kids ending up fat. I am their role model-I have to be the best Mom I can be and that means being able to move and have fun in a healthy body and show them that exercise is good. bottom line.

    You're right hun.

30 minutes 3 to 4 times a week......right, I WILL do it for my kids, and maybe even WITH my kids :D
