Sallyx - does your OH have a union? If not he could call ACAS http://www.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1611

or have a look through http://www.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1611

He might have a case for constructive dismissal.

There is also a Redundancy Thread on MSE.

Well DH was brought into company to be IT manager..he doesn't have anyone underneath him and he is the only IT person. At the time there was another IT person who was employed by one of the companies within the group. This person then got promoted to head of IT for group but still only the 2 of them employed by 2 different companies. Now of course they have made DH redundant or sorry his position redundant. Now my understanding is that they make the position redundant and no-one else can be employed to do this work..as effectively you are making the position redundant as its no longer needed. Turns out the other man (head of IT for group) is now going to have to take on the work DH was doing. To be it all seems a bit back hand and the reason they are getting rid of him is he is a big expense not because they don't need him. Just need some advice on whether what I think is correct or not
NO Sal they cant do it. You are right.
I would post it in the employment section in here as well to get advice from more clued up people as well though
