Everyone noticing a sharp fall in gas usage last week or two

Heating on from 6.30am to 5pm at 20C and from 5pm till 1030pm between 21C and 24C.
Went over 200kwh in a day at the start of Feb, we are now around half that.0 -
Mine is down from 33kwh to 4kwh this week
Heating is OFF OFF OFF !!
Using the multifuel stove to take the chill off in the evenings, but not keeping it in all day and all night like we were doing a few weeks back.
DH brought some old pallets home from work so burning those now instead of coal, and I pick up the odd fallen branch each time I go out with the dog !0 -
Be careful when burning pallets, they contain all kinds of nasties to prevent them rotting.
No good for the chimney lining or stainless liner and also no good to you when you open the door.0 -
We only burn the good ones, solid wood, with no paint or dyes on them.
We had some once which were a kind of compressed sawdust mixed with glue. No way was I chancing that one !!0 -
Just checked our useage from 15th feb - 15th Mar - 150 metric units (approx 1650kWh).
15th Jan - 15th Feb we used 250 metric units (approx 2750kWh).
So the last month we used 100 less units of gas, should get less and less from here on in, hopefully prices will be a further 10% (20% total) less by the time next winter comes round0 -
Funnily enough the cold snap we have endured may even mean we use even less gas than usual this year! Reason being we have deliberately been very careful with the heating BECAUSE of the very cold weather. My wife has always loved being toasty warm whereas I am the opposite (they say opposites attract, eh?) but even she decided we should turn the heating down in increments to see what was 'comfortable'. It's amazing what you get used to, my elderly father visited a week ago and we purposely turned the heating up due to his age (the temp was probably what it would have normally been in previous years for our use) and when he had gone my wife immediately turned the heating right down as she felt 'stifled', lol.
Sorry for the ramble, my point being the heating will probably go off much much sooner this year. A good thing in my book!Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -

Last year we kept the thermostat in the hallway set to 20 degrees, i then brought a thermometer home from work and left in the lounge, it was recording around 22 degrees when the heating was on.
So this year we dropped the thermostat down to 18degrees in the hallway and the lounge is now 20 degrees and now we are used to it there is no going back.
I go to my parents and cannot stay there long without switching off the heating, took my thermometer there and its 23 degrees, those 3 degrees now make a massive difference to me, so your right once you get used to a temperature you soon adapt and even 2 degrees higher can make you feel to hot and uncomfortable.
Our usage has fallen from 16500kWh last year to 13200kWh this year and its been alot colder so we are obviously doing something right.0 -
I do hope my gas consumption has decreased - just got bill in for last qtr - £424!! gulp!
It must be cheaper to pay for school wraparound care for ds than have us both at home in the winter afternoons.
Just checked on energyline for comparison - but the fixed price e-on that I'm on shows up as ok.0
