Everyone noticing a sharp fall in gas usage last week or two

We were using approx 8 units (88kWh) per day during the majority of January and early part of February.
Heating on 5pm till 10pm monday to friday
Thermostat set to 18 degrees

And 10 units (110kWh) per day Saturday & Sunday heating on 11am till 3pm , 6pm till 10pm
Thermostat set to 18 degrees

Nothing has changed with our lifestyle, still same number of showers, cooking per day but now our usage is down to 4 units (44kWh) per day, inc weekends for the past week and a bit.
Thermostat set to 19 degrees

This is obviously down to the milder weather outside, but I also topped up the loft insulation by another 100mm 3 weeks ago.

How is everyone else fairing?

  • Yes, my usage has dropped markedly also. In fact, this (cold!) Winter has been a real turnig point for us in the sense that my usually very nesh wife has now become as resentful of the rip-off organisms laughably termed energy suppliers and has actually been turning the heating down herself (not a normal occurrence, believe me!). This means that the heating will be off quicker come Spring than it has in any previous year. Given a 'normal' Spring and Summer we will probably burn even less gas this year than previously, even including the very cold Winter we have endured. Fantastic. Let's see that demand for Gas drop off even more and the wholesale price plummet...

Yeh it's been quite warm these last couple of days if it keeps up I could probably turn the central heating off in next few weeks.

My heating has been off completely since the weather became milder. :D

  • Heating has been mostly off this week. Central heating is bust and been trying to get the landlord to fix it. So 54 kWh for the week all electric with a little boost from a fan heater. Certainly welcome the milder weather.

Our peak, in January, was 36 imperial units in a week (161kwh a day) and we've averaged 24 units a week (107kwh a day) this winter.

This week, down to 19 units (85kwh a day). Am going to turn heating off during day now, although as there's someone in most of the time, no guarantee it'll stay off.

This is my first post, though I have been lurking a while! I'm delighted by the drop in my gas consumption. Down from 640 kw a week to about 480kw last week. Hope the weather stays mild. I've just moved into the house in January, and was a bit worried.

Hi Savers United..........Welcome, Karent, you are in the right place.
My gas is down, and am thinking of doing a 'no energy day' once a week, similar to 'no spend day' on the Old Style Board.
Not for every one, but just thinking about it should throw up a few problems.

My kids are often without energy on their days off. Unfortunately, once they can be persuaded to leave their beds, they are inclined to spend the day on front of TV with an xbox controller to hand. If they can get away with it, they'll turn the heating up too, so their no energy days are bad news for me.

Yes Sue SWYM, difficult with family .Let them stay in bed, no cooking, feed 'em cheese sandwiches.
Just done gas and electric meter weekly read, gas down by half and electric by 8kwh, so a lot of that 8kwh was the central heating pump.
