Hi we got one in lidls for £9-99 and it is fab, it is cordless or corded and 2200 watts so pretty good, it does a few things but i only really wanted the steam function tbh and it does that really well so a thumbs up from me! It is better than our £30 one we last had and if it goes wrong (has 2 yr warranty) we haven't lost much!.
  • I doubt you will be able to repair the iron as it will be uneconomic to repair by manufacturer or repair company, so parts will not be available. The heating element is sealed into the baseplate so would require a new baseplate assembly.
There is another thread here about irons :

As I said on the last post on there I would recommend Philips irons.

Another vote for Philips. I had a Philips Azur (when it was best buy at Which a good few years ago), best iron I've had, has lasted years and the only reason I retired it is because I had a Philips steam generator which is giving good service. The Azur is packed away as a spare. Daughter-in-law got through a couple of Tefal during this time then went onto the same Philips steam generator as me.

Thanks- Do you know what model of the Philips Azur you have (there seem to be a few different ones)?

Mine is the Excel Plus HI525. Bear in mind I've had it years so it will have been superceded by newer models now.

However, here is a review from 2003 from someone who was as impressed as I am.

I doubt if you can get the same model now and I don't know if the newer models are as good, best see if you can find some reviews.

I always use Reevoo when looking for reviews, but there are other sites as well.

No you're right- I can't find it anywhere, not even second hand on Ebay. And as with anything, newer models will probably not be as good, as you rightly say.

Still, will probably get some sort of Philips or other- but the steam generator one (Which? Best Buy at the mo) is probably out of my price range!

    Thanks for the advice.

Sorry, just seen this, mine is quite old now but I think it's still available here:
