I once knew a one handed mechanic. He worked faster than any other garage mechanic I've ever known. RIPticklepenny wrote: »I am currently 6 months pregnant and useless with Vehicle DIY, House DIY I can do I can even build walls and lay patio's but a car is just beyond me.
But yeah, I can see that being a problem for you.
It's probably a TORX if anything like the ZX I've owned. The window mechanism, we cant get to because to remove the door panel we need a 5 point do hickey which I dont know the proper term for and wouldnt know where to get one.
You can get them off ebay, probably for under a fiver, or the local independant bric a brac DIY shop should have something. Indoor markets, that sort of thing.
It's worth getting the security bit version of them as some TORX come with a little dot in the centre of the screw/bolt which makes them more secure apparently.
If you remove the light (probably snaps in?) can you see the aerial hole? The roof leaks through the little light fixture, which I assume is a problem with the seal around the ariel directly above, oh and the ariel doesnt work.
The rubber will perish over time. If you get some left over bathroom sealant from your household DIY and give it a good bit around the aerial, flatten with your finger in the same way.
Got a sunroof? Might be that seal. Long time since you opened the roof?I have managed to get a quote on replacement tyres for £25 each.... but OH says its better to get rid of the car now, and spend all of our extra funds on a newer car than waste it on Charlie (charlie is the citroens name btw).
That's a good price for tyres. Ask what your next car's tyres will cost. They are probably more expensive as they will be bigger both in height and width.
RIP Charlie

Well I printed this out and discussed with OH last night......
We are going to buy 6 months tax, and a new tyre! I will try fixing the leaky aerial bit.....no sun roof to blame for the leaks.
That will just leave the window mecahnism and the funny knocking noise..... OH still wants to buy a newer car ( I miss having a ford fiesta tbh) so may replace charlie in the following months before the next MOT is due, and possibly beofre baby shows up.
Thank you for your help with this!
Only other thing I wanted to ask is... the 5 angled sprocket thing...is it called a TORX? if its only a fiver I might try to fix this. But the kncokcing noise/bearings problem is beyond me :rolleyes:DS1 arrived 22/02/11! 8lb3oz

The five point thingy is called a torx head screw/bolt. you will be able to get a socket to fit it from B & Q/Halfords for a couple of quid.0
