The everything went wrong is the:
Front passenger window wind down mechanism has broken
roof leaks a little if there is heavy rain
Front left tyre needs replacing
Car "knocks" if you go around a corner above 10 miles an hour
To be honest it is fine for runing about but I am 6 months pregnant and just want a more reliable motor with 5 doors, instead of the potential problems getting worse.
Its a 954CC and it is very economical but if it breaks down I cant afford to repair it. Also my OH who is 36 now wants to learn to drive and I want to upgrade the insurance to fully comprehensive, but it wouldnt be worth it on the citroen as the insurance would cost more than the car (currently insured 3rd party only £150 for the year).
I have listed it on gumtree but also enquired with the local scrap heap if they would be interested. We shall see!DS1 arrived 22/02/11! 8lb3oz

Steady on there sound very little wrong with the car.
I doubt the roof is leaking but who cares anyway. If you have time and inclanation then you can look at door seals etc later.
All cars need tyres and that shouldn't cost more than £30 - £40.
If it's a drop link or a bearing that won't cost that much either.
Window mechanism ...who needs them? But you can take the cover off the door and have a look to see what the problem is.
all the things you have mentioned here are small and any car you buy in this sort of price bracket could be a hell of a lot worse! At least get it looked at.0 -
if you want rid of it, i would love it, ideal for my gf who cant afford her own car, she would love an ax!0

If you are DIYing then you wouldn't be asking.
If you find teh car to be on the most part reliable and your repair bills are low then it's a case of better the devil you know.
Up until you get the first horendous bill and then it's time for a change.
No matter what year the car is (based on what you can afford to replace it with).
Tip: Always get a MOT test a month before it's due. At least then if it fails you can still sell it with a current MOT, if only a month.

Yes you are being too optimistic !
Will it pass an MoT? Thats the gamble. If it does, run it for a year,if it doesnt and its a cheap fix, consider fixing,if not, give it away/sell it whatever. At this level dont expect to sell it for much if anything! The knocking whilst cornering sounds expensive if your paying to fix.0 -
My daily driver you would look at and turn your nose at it. It looks like a dog. It's easier to sand the dirt off it and repaint rather than scrub it (I have done this twice) to clean it.
It costs me sod all to run tho and has been all over Europe over the past few years.
If someone crashed into it and wrote it off I'd be gutted as I couldn't replace it with something I know will not let me down.
I's not worth anything in the market, but to me it's irreplaceable.

Its one of those things where by I have £1k between me and OH and with a little one on the way I would just feel a bit more confident in a newer car (Eg 10years old rather than 17 years old lol). Plus I cant be bothered with garages at the moment I'm a little hormonal at the moment
I am currently 6 months pregnant and useless with Vehicle DIY, House DIY I can do I can even build walls and lay patio's but a car is just beyond me.
The window mechanism, we cant get to because to remove the door panel we need a 5 point do hickey which I dont know the proper term for and wouldnt know where to get one.
The roof leaks through the little light fixture, which I assume is a problem with the seal around the ariel directly above, oh and the ariel doesnt work.
I have managed to get a quote on replacement tyres for £25 each.... but OH says its better to get rid of the car now, and spend all of our extra funds on a newer car than waste it on Charlie (charlie is the citroens name btw).DS1 arrived 22/02/11! 8lb3oz

Just a word of warning and I'm probably pointing out the obvious but just because you spend more money on a car it doesn't mean it will be more reliable - the most expensive car I ever bought cost me £12,000 and it was in the garage - no exaggeration here - every month (luckily covered by it's warranty), with all sorts of problems. I sold it 18months on and lost a fortune.
If you're worried about reliability you could always take out breakdown cover (which you may have already anyway), get a local garage to sort out the niggles, and let little Charlie live on....0 -
I am going to print this thread out and give it to OH, as I am becoming very indecisive :rotfl: I think I will let him decide, then if he is wrong I can blame him hehehe;)DS1 arrived 22/02/11! 8lb3oz
