Quick Help Needed Pls!! Virus!! System Security

I was using my computer a few moments ago when I got a pop up stating that a virus had been detected and to be honest I panicked a little bit and installed what I thought (and what it said) was System Security which then ran a full scan. The System Security icon is in the shape of a shield and has yellow and black diagonal lines running across it?? Is this legit?? Its telling me it has found 38 infections (viruses, trojans etc) and I should activate System Security and remove immediately. How do I know what I am activating?? I have installed on my computer McAfee which has found nothing as yet (running a full scan). As I am typing this there is a pop up informing me (from System Security) that Internet Explorer is infected with a worm Lsas.Blaster.Keylogger? which is waiting to send information (credit cards etc) to a host??
What shall I do, should I activate this security and remove infections or not??

Hi,
System Security is a fake AV product. DO NOT run any more scans with it, DO NOT allow it to fix anything and uninstall it from your system if it's easy to do so through Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Let the McAfee scan finish and let us know what it finds
Also, along with it, can you please post a HijackThis log (get it from http://www.majorgeeks.com/download5554.html ) - install it to it's own folder, run it and click 'Run a system scan and save a log file' in the dialog box that comes up. Then post the contents of that log to this thread for myself or one of the other experts on here to analyze

Thanks Mike, I thought it was a bit strange. Will try to do all that and post back.
Thanks again.

System security is a scam. It pretends to find infections on your computer, and then wants to delete them for a fee.
Install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, update it, do a full scan and fix whatever it finds.0 -
Great! Am going out in a few minutes but I'm sure someone else just as (if not more) knowledgeable as me will be along to help
EDIT: And as I'm typing that such a person turns up :P0 -
Sorry Mike, have closed all warning windows but the icon remains at the bottom of the screen and keep getting pop ups. I have gone through to my "add or remove programs" and have looked for system security but it's not showing on my programmes in the control panel?
I know it's installed though as I have the shortcut icon on the screen and I can see it when I click on "start", "all programmes"??
How do I uninstall??

That is a very old version of Malware bytes - please update and rescan; Current version is 1.34 and update 1784.
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2- Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
- Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
- When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
- When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
- Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Then click Finish.
- If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.
- Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
- If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. Alternatively, you can update through MBAM's interface from a clean computer, copy the definitions (rules.ref) located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from that system to a usb stick or CD and then copy it to the infected machine.
- Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
- Then click on the Scan button.
- If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
- The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
- When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
- Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
- Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
- Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
- When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
- The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
- Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.

Winjackie, did you update Malwarebytes before you scanned?
I don't think you're using the most up to date database.
If not, update it and then scan again.0
