I see that GreedBay (eBAY) now claim that you cannot list knives for sale on their family-friendly site, What a crock of hypocritical !!!!. A brief search for KNIFE reveals the following: -
Knives/ Swords (1285)
Militaria (200)
Hunting (535)
Camping (490)
Fishing (296)
SCUBA & Snorkelling (58)
and of course KITCHEN (and they are SO safe aren't they children) a mere 1253
That's a total of almost 4 THOUSAND weapons just listed under the title of KNIFE. Heaven only knows how many there are there in total.
IF THY ARE SO SERIOUS, WHY DO THEY STILL HAVE THE CATEGORIES!!!!!
Have you ever tried using the GreedBay reporting system - you can submit 10 items at a time and it takes far longer than I can be bothered with. But then, since they take a minimum of 10p for each listing, that a lot of money to be returning so we can all see where THEIR priorities are residing - in their wallets....

why worry? theres plenty of ways to get knives and ebay were just doing a kneejerk reaction to public pressure0
-
They did say on Watchdog it may take a while to come into effect.0

Go into any kitchen in the land and SHOCK HORROR you will find knives GULP laying about SHIVER for anyone to pick up.0
-
Hate to say I agree with Advent but knives aren't the problem, it is the people who use them.
Realistically, if Ebay stopped selling knives, do you think that would be the end of knife crime?0 -

as an ex chef i havea small arsenal of knives in the house
as a martial artist i have various forms of weapons/training weapons
however it doesnt matter
im not out on the streets with them in my pockets
those that will use knives will always find weapons0 -
Yes, you can find knives in the kitchen. But you generally do not find many swords. GreedBay seem to have a section dedicated to this yet they state that these items may not be sold. So why do they have the dratted section there?
It reminds me of someone who runs a "hotel", where you can hire rooms for an hour but they have a stated policy of "NO PROSTITUTION ON THE PREMISES" - unless you pay for the room in advance.
Money makes the world go round....
About 6 hours ago I reported item 140302355767 -
large survival bowie bushcraft hunting knife
and I am sure that we all have one of those in the kitchen. After all, how ELSE do you open up the pack of frozen pizza unless you have one of those in your belt. Needless to say, it sold for a goodly sum so more fees for GreedBay....
And perhaps some of you Chefs can explain to me why you need a survival bowie military jungle bushcraft hunting knife
Item number: 140290678119
These are not exactly hard to find, why does GreedBay pretend that they have nothing to do with it, it's just the wicky-wicky-Wild Wild Web and they are just a market place and it is up to us, the public, to police the darned thing. If I am policing it, where is MY cut of the cash being taken?I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -

Whilst I have no statistics to hand, I don't think there are that many crimes committed with swords.
If you go back 300 years, it may be different....0 -
Just for fun I looked these up: -
Man in hospital after Cheam sword attack -1:06pm Wednesday 2nd January 2008
Man Has Hand Severed In Dublin Pub Sword Attack - 2:55pm UK, Monday January 14, 2008
and so on....
But the point was the hyocrisy of Greedbay, NOT the scaremongering by the press about THE RISE OF KNIFE (and SWORD) crime which you all seem to be obsessed with. People get jabbed with pointed sticks but, for some reason, GreedBay does not have a Pointed Stick policy and I understand from BlackAdder that fruit can be sharpened to make a nasty weapon. Perhaps that's because there are not a lot of pointed sticks or Fruit (Blunt or Sharpened) for sale on GreedBayI am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -
2 incidents. Bottom line is "swords" are not common weapons of choice for feral scum.
Do you REALLY think that banning things like this will stop violence?
I've just chopped up some vegetables with a huge knife. Its safe in my hands. Some people's hands, lethally dangerous.0 -
Sorry Tozer, you are still obsessed with the swords/knives issue. My point is that GreedBay seem to think that stating FISHKNIVES/SHARPENEDFRUIT/POINTYSTICKS ARE BANNED FROM SALE is adequate but do not take any further action and actually prevent reporting by pathetic feedback systems. In addition, they seem to have no real supervision and encourage violations of their own policies by continuing to permit listings to be posted to groups that clearly contravene their policy.
Incidentally, a search on Google gives Results of about 293,000 for attack +sword +2009 and not all of those are the "MY +1 SWORD OF DOBBING IS BEST FOR ATTACKING A CLASS 3 GOBLIN...." variety.
I really do not care what I am stabbed with as long as it does not leave a hole or cause me to bleedI am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0
