new ebay email scam

Just to let you know I had an email apparently from ebay inviting me to become a PowerSeller but it's a scam.

Sorry if this is old news, just thought I'd post it in case as it did look like the real deal!!!

Luckily I went to the ebay board and read about the PowerSeller thing and discovered I dont qualify so forwarded it their spoof address and confirmed scam!

I just pop in now and then.... :)

I have several of these e-mails. I always forward them to the fraud department at ebay. They always reply to me and thank me for bringing it to their attention.

I do the same if I receive any from banks. The strange thing is that I have never had one from a bank where I actually have an account. I suppose these rouges send out thousands at random and hope to catch a few suckers.

There's also a Paypal one doing the rounds - says they have noticed suspicious activity on your account and they have temporarily restricted access to it - click this link to restore full access. Of course I was mug enough to do it and enter my username and password without checking the URL. It then asked for credit card details at which point I smelled a rat.

Don't panic, I've changed my Paypal login and password since then though.

I received the Paypal fake e-mail today. I forwarded on to the Paypal fraud investigations department.
