just wondering did your friend actualy get 350 from the community care grant for clothes because of weight gain or loss?

yes it was weight gain the initially said no but he asked for a review which took 2 weeks then he got £350 added to bank account.
  • I am at a loss too, Community Care Grants are to help people back into the community and keep families together.

Thanks for clarifying that point, I have not had much experience with ccgs mainly crisis loans.

    Hi All,

first off, thanks for the great board..It's been of help for me many times.but this is my first post.

It's a small question aimed at anyone who knows.

I've been on IS benefit since August 08, previous to that JSA for two years despite trying hard to get work..anyway, had an accident and now I going through the mill for IS recipients who are there because they had'nt paid enough NI stamps to get IB.

I have very little money left after paying bills, ect and disposable cash for things like clothes and haircuts is slim to none. I buy clothes from charity shops, not a problem, I believe in recycling...but after being on benefits for so long my shoes (I have one pair of shoes and one pair of boots) are worn out, at least the souls are, in both pairs..I can never find mens shoes in charity shops..

So, is there any social security benefit available to furnish me with shoes? a special one off payment (I don't wish to take out a loan as I'll never be able to pay it back).
I'd appreicate any helpull responce, as my feet are tired of being wet and cold.

    Thanks again

    roger.

Hi Roger :hello: Welcome to MSE.

Have you tried ebay for shoes? Or gumtree? Freecycle? You could other things from these places too that you might find useful :)

Have you checked U Switch to see whether you've got the best deal for your gas and electric? If you do need to switch, you could get quidco cashback :)

Good luck, hope you get some sorted soon :)

What size shoes do you take?

  • whilst i wouldnt like to be seen as judging anyone about the lack of cash,i would point out that places like sports direct/asda/tesco etc etc sell trainers for well under a tenner

Your link did not work for me, but the op could apply for the budgeting loan which he would have to repay back each week from his benefits. http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/life/benefits/help_for_people_on_a_low_income_-_the_social_fund.htm#help_for_one_off_expenses
  • Hi

Like AKABEE has posted, you can get a grant from the Social Fund if you have been on Benefits for 6 months or more, anything upto £350

Looking at your budget, surely with the money left over you can squeeze a pair of shoes out of it. Try your local newspapers, Ebay etc.... for shoes

    Hope this helps

    Hi, :hello:

Thanks for all the positive answers, I see I'm going to have to do some research, some of the terms/names used here I've never heard of, like "freecycle" "gumtree" "social fund" and what is "quidco cashback" ? I guess I need to go the social fund route, I'll start googleing right now.;)

I spend about 30 pounds a week on food, so there is room to cut back there, tho, a high fibre diet is expensive from what I've found. it's neccessary because of the tablets I take..
On the subject of claiming money due to weight loss/gain...I'm loseing weight but this means I get to where clothes I bought years ago which I had grown out of..lol.

Mr Cow, I wear a size 91/2, do you have a pair you wish to sell? or give away..? ;)

Thanks for the ideas about e-bay and others shops...all very good..
Allthough it would have to be a cold day in hell before I'd wear a pair of trainers...lol, sorry, old school and jus plain old and cranky.:D

    roger.
