My MIL always has about 12 chickens she keeps for eggs and they are as free as it gets, they spend all day scratching around 2 acres of land then get locked in their coop on a night, sounds like chicken heaven I hear you say well not quite quite. For a start not all of them always make it in the coop about once a month you hear bood curdling screams as one gets chased down then savaged by a fox/dog/unidentified ferret type creature. Then those that make it to the coop have to endure the pecking order lessons by the 1 or 2 domanant hens, where they are literally repeatedly pecked to teach them whose boss and to stay away from the good perches. On rare occasions 1 is actually pecked to death.
I can always tell the ones that are a couple of years old as they are half bald and have a few scabs on them.
This is clearly their natural behaviour as they have very little human contact and are semi wild.
It seems to me a chickens life is going to be fairly bleak regardless of which side of the factory wall they are born.

Back on point when does the offer run till? not sure if I can get to Asda in the next couple of days

The difference is though this is natural behaviour. It's completely natural that a fox wants to eat chickens so it doesn't starve. Circle of life, survival of the fittest etc etc.
Caged birds isn't something that has to happen because of nature. Not really a fair comparison.

Yes I know I stated that this was natural behaviour. I thought it was only fair to give a description of free range/natural life as we have all read or watched on tv about caged life.

Well i recived my 4 !!! chickens today via online shopping, wasn't 100% they'd let me have all 4 but they arrived so im not complaining. :D

We had one for dinner tonight with enough leftovers for a curry tommorrow, and i have 2 in the freezer and 1 left in the fridge, ill cook later in the week.

Is it wrong of me to be debating going and buying another 3 tommorrow?? storage is a slight problem but i think if i cooked them and stripped them i could find room for the meat somewhere in the freezer. :T

Good find  they are a decent size and at £2 BARGIN!!! :D

P.S Anyone else wonder if by buying the cheap chickens we are actually doing them a favor... lets face is living in horrible conditions they might well be quite glad of someone comming and chopping their heads off?? At least we arn't tearing them away from thier nice little lives breaking up little chicken familys by eating a much loved family member.

i bought 3 yesterday, didn't tell hubby i'd bought them, jus tthat chicken was £2 at asda.

Being a taxi driver there rank is outside of asda and before coming home for his chicken dinner tonight, he popped in to use tyhe loo, and came out with 3 chickens.

We had ours for tea last night, and finished it of for sunday dinner, and the bones are now simmering in a pan of stock to make a nice broth with tomorrow.

    Well worth £2
