Full Chicken £2 Asda

There was a newspaper, The Guardian I think, that did a blind taste test, and the battery reared chickens came out top for taste and texture, but there wasn't really much in it points wise. I think people psychosomatically believe that free range tastes better, but it is just in the mind. You feel better about eating a free range product, so you imagine that it tastes better, when in truth there is little or no noticeable difference.
Now, someone will try and shoot that down by claiming that free range DOES taste better, but that is the psychosomatic effect on your senses at work.
If you can afford to buy free range then great, I would if I could, but don't look down your nose at people who are just trying to make the pennies stretch that little bit further.
Exactly! But I wouldn't buy free range whether I could afford it or not, I have tried it just for the sake of trying, claims are made that they taste better and they don't. If they did I would consider buying them. I'm all about the taste, I won't buy cheap sausages because I cannot stand the taste or the texture, I wouldn't buy cheap mince for the same reason but free range chicken IMO is not as nice as the chickens I buy - honestly. But hey ho, it's up to each individual.0 -
Its the people buying the cheap chickens that are being the aggressors here. It seems you are allowed to choose as long as it conforms to their way of thinking.
It's the PC-bridge who are shouting people down in capital letters, and being generally unpleasant human beings. If that's what having an ethical conscience does to you then I'd rather not have one.
Now, if you will excuse me I need to put on my slippers made in a Chinese sweat shop, and head to the kitchen to fry up some battery eggs and make a mug on non-Fairtrade coffee
(I bet that all the pc-brigade people here have a house full on non-pc products) We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
I don't care what people do, but people constantly battering down other people's opinions can be just as annoying. People are allowed to express an opinion (whatever it is, within reason) without being told they're trying to dictate to other people.
There are people on both sides of the argument here who could be accused of trying to 'dictate to others'. That equally applies to the pro cheap chicken side, some of whom can be aggressive, labour the point and get personal yet always try and make themselves out to be reasonable and moderate.
Mostly what people seem to dislike is other people expressing negative opinions about their behaviour but that is allowed.
I also don't agree with the view that just because you don't have money, ethics have to go out the window. It's just a matter of finding an alternative, or going without. It's hardly likely anybody on here is going to starve and be unable to find something else they can eat as they trundle down the supermarket aisles looking at thousands of items on the shelves.0 -

I 100% disagree. No one has said you should eat this chicken, this thread is about chickens on offer at Asda for £2. Not about the welfare of those chickens, we didn't go hunting you down, you came here trying to make other feel guilty, end of! You can argue away with it but that is exactly what your attempting, you are trying to change how other people live and that is dictating.
Do you eat out in restaurants, or your children, do they have school dinners. I ask because you and a few others are trying to push your ethics down others throats, so I feel it's a question worth asking.0 -
No, I'm not trying to push my ethics down anybody's throat - you don't even know what my ethics are. I'm just saying that people are allowed to have them, and allowed to post opinions in an open forum without being bullied.
You seem to be the one hovering about this thread answering every single point, thanking everybody who agrees with you and arguing with everybody who seems not to.
I don't actually give a toss about people eating cheap chickens.
I'm not answering personal questions on a forum albeit to say that I can't remember the last time I ate chicken in a restaurant, or ate KFC, and it's a no to the school dinners as well. If you want to come around my house and inspect the contents of my fridge - since you seem to want to take it that far - feel free - you won't find anything in there I'm ashamed of in the slightest.
Or shall I just save you the effort and fill out a questionnaire?0 -
People are allowed freedom of choice to buy what they feel happy buying, a long as its what you would buy of course.
Obviously you havent seen the C4 pogrammes about chicken welfare recently.
I have, and i need to watch my spending as much as the next person ut i have traded up where possible and whist i didnt think it would make much difference, the improved taste and quality was clear to all.
These are the fresh chickens they normally have on offer 3 for $10. I have seen
C4 programme and am sorry but if its a question of feeding kids and feeling sorry for a Chicken KIDS win hand down.
So I am going to be very bad and add that SP eggs are now down to One pound for 15
This is a bargain thread and I get heartly sick of do gooding Sorry for chickens comments. If it upsets you dont buy but please please stop trying to make the rest of us feel quilty.Sealed pot challenge 5430 -

Are you stalking me?
You entered into this thread, telling everyone about your ethics when choosing chickens. I thought it was only fair to see how far you take your ethical stance, fair do's, you don't eat chicken in restaurants.
If you enter a discussion, and deviate from the topic then you should be prepared to discuss your argument or what's the point in entering a discussion in the first place
You've made your point, you don't eat cheap chickens.
