I agree with you abaxas, I get a Sunday joint of beef from the butcher usually and it tastes much nicer than the supermarket.
But I did buy and Oakham chicken form M&S yesterday, it'll do us several meals, but the tatse is unbeatable.
I think the gravy helps, if you make it with meat (or chicken) juices, it's delicious.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I have started to use Able & Cole (the veg box people) more & more for meat too. The mince is about £1 more expensive than Tesco. The sausages are ab fab - really worth it (Currently about £3.95). We don't have a butchers around here. Its a personal thing - I'd rather pay a little bit more and get something that tastes better (& the welfare issue). We are on a v tight budget so I try to balance it by having things like cauli cheese on other nights.0

I love Able and Cole too, quidco now do 5% cashback. There is a special offer on sausages (50% extra) at the moment.0 -
Butchers every time :j The meat may be more expensive, but it's such better quality.
I'll add this to the thread butcher or Tesco later

I just looked at their site and am thinking of ordering a fruit mixed box - fruit and veg. But is it good value, I mean a tenner here could I get loads more at the supermarket.
I bought a veg box from Tesco online and though it was a bad buy.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I tried Able & Co, it lasted for 2 boxes before I cancelled. I thought I was paying a high price for a few organic fruit & veg that was very dirty and covered in mud. Was not for me.If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -
Hi Barneysmom, what I worked out is that Mr T wants £4 before he gets in his van - Able & Cole have free delv...I get the veg every week & the fruit every other..(I started because Mr T stopped the boxes around here..)0

The butchers for me every time - sometimes it works out a bit dearer, sometimes about the same, but quality is far superior and the meat is always softer and much less fatty.0

To be honest, I don't like the fruit and veg boxes so much. I can see how they might work for some, but we eat very little english fruit  and their fairtrade banana's etc, I could buy cheaper at tesco. I ordered a veg box and again, it was a little disappointing. Their bakery goods are fantastic as are their chutney's, mayo, ketchup, lemon curd. The pies are amazing but veeeeery expensive.
edited to add: lil_me posted a link on another thread to

Their free range chicken looks to me to be at least 30% cheaper than at the supermarket and some, like the breasts, seem to be the same price as standard supermarket varieties.0
