Bland food like pancakes and potato cakes.

Also I ate Weetos - sounds odd but they're fortified so help with losing nutrients.

Get OH to cook for himself and your LO. It will go away eventually, but just rest as much as possible and eat what you can.

This may be a daft suggestion (because I have no kids so haven't been through what you are going through at the moment!) but...

When you make a dinner for DH and DD, can you make a bit extra and freeze it in a single portion which you can eat on a different day - i.e. make your own "takeaway" or ready meal which smells different to the main meal you are cooking on that day. So, for example, you cook spag bol for them (and can't face the smell of it on that day, but you freeze your portion for another day), then zap a portion of pre-made (on an earlier day) curry/chilli/casserole in the microwave for yourself so that the smell of your own food happens so quickly that you don't get time to be put off... ;)

Hope that makes sense - I know what I mean but am not sure that I have explained it well?!

Of course, I agree that the best option is to make DH cook for 9 months (and beyond!) but I'm trying to be realistic here!! :p

When I felt icky the only way to feel better was to graze and snack all day. I munched on dried apricots, raisins and avocados amongst other things. No wonder I put on 4 stone! Hope you feel better soon, it will all be worth it in 6 months x
  • Hi all,

    I am 33 weeks pregnant, have 2 other children 5 & 3 and a very lazy husband!

I have always made things from scratch but atm getting very tired and struggling to do this all the time. So i need your help!

Husband does not do anything from scratch, he will just about put something in the oven to cook if it does not take much effort ie pizza!

need ideas of freezing food so i can batch cook, soups main meals and lunches.

I just need to get organised and prepare because if left to OH we will be living on dominos and Mcdonalds which is not healthy or cheap!!!

Our budget for 1 week is £60 for everything to do with houshold would like to get it down even more.

Thanks in advance all your help is much appreciated.
  • For dinners you could do loads of different things, spaghetti bolognaise, chilli, curry, cottage pie, cheesy vegetables, smoothies, pasta bakes, soups, pizzas, all can be frozen, I think you could freeze the pizzas raw so you just have to throw them in the oven to cook, for everything else you can portion it up into tubs so it's like a ready meal or pop it all into a big tub and then he just has to heat it up and serve.

I'm not sure if it's possible but maybe someone else could advise (I'm looking for the answer as well!) but rather than oven chips is it possible to chop up potatoes into wedges and then freeze/parboil and freeze?

For snacks if you are into baking you could make banana bread, muffins, cookies, sponge cake etc and freeze it up in individual portions that can be taken out quickly.

Lunches I assume the eldest is at school? There are loads of great ideas on the sticky for lunchbox ideas (may be on the shopping forum) pitta bread and chopped veggies with a bit of dip to go with it, quick, easy, healthy and filling. Quiches, soups for variety, pasta salads, sandwiches, wraps. Add in a frozen smoothie/yoghurt and a muffin or something and an easy lunch that even your husband could attempt ;)

HTH even a little, there are multiple threads on here with lots of advise, ie using half the recommended amount of washing powder/softner, use stardrops as a cleaning product, use everything, meal plan, only buy what you need there literally is thousands of great idea's on here :)

  • There's a thread of batch cook ideas here :)

I like to make casseroles, pasta sauce, soup.

Some people like to make lasagne, pies and freeze them.

You can freeze pizza dough, then defrost, roll out, add toppings and cook :)

Yes, this is fine. I had to take a tray of parboiled Slimming world chips out of the oven [had been in about 5 mins] and shoot out somewhere so I bunged them into a bag and froze them and when I came to cook them, they were better than the original chips.

Works for all shapes! I give them a quick spray with spray oil before they go into the freezer. Freeze on a tray and once frozen, then bag them up or they freeze in a solid heap.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • Thanks everyone,
Thats the plan to make everything from scratch, so cheap healthy but produce them in to ready meals so OH can just get them out and cook!!!
Eldest is at school and very good with her food and eats pastas and such. I suppose i should create a list of foods they all like and take it from there really.
I love Baking never thought to freeze cakes though! Thats the issue i have its what can be frozen and still taste as good as fresh!

Thank you everyone will research abit more x

Cook once, eat twice might work for you too. On the days you do have the energy to cook, make double the amount and freeze half. Then on the days you are shattered, eat from the freezer. A lot of things can be cooked from frozen, just add an extra 10 or 15 minutes to the cooking time and stick a knife in the centre and check the tip of the knife is hot before serving up.
