fayjmck - the tomato and pepper seeds I'm starting off indoors in an old seed tray covered with cling film to keep the seeds warm. As soon as they start germinating I'll take off the cling film and hope for the best! If I don't get enough seedings that way the seeds will be ok to sow straight outside at the end of next month.

I might start some peas off this weekend too outside. Need to get onion sets bought also.

Hope the weather turns out to be as good as the forcasters are saying it will be!

  • HI ALL JUST BACK FROM THE OS SNEAKY WAYS TO SAVE PENNIES THREAD AND FOUND THIS OUT.....whoops sorry for shouting

Stardrops are on offer at ASDA at the moment - 40p a bottle :D

You proably all know this already but if you don't then that's my good dead for the day - my nearest asda is - um - in PERTH I think or maybe ELGIN.

Only between 100-200 miles away - ho hum!!!!

Ratty - got my shallots an onions in couple weeks ago - read somewhere about starting them off in seed trays/cells to get a good root developed and it leads to getting better sized bulbs when you harvest later or as the plants establish better - so trying it out.

Can grow toms/peppers outside up here so am starting them off inside and will keep them inside - currently slug hunting like a deranged beast in my greenhouse and conservatory so that when my little seed babies appear no evil slug will taste the bounty. Slug count this year so far 78 ( I think) Goodluck with it all- how many types of toms/peppers you trying???

    MOrning all!

    - free scratchcard - 20p today :j - I keep getting emails on a Friday saying I'll get 50p for logging in, but I'm not getting them.....anyone else not getting the bonus? NOt sure what to do as I don't want to draw thier attention to the fact I only do the free scratchcard

I haven't had a friday bonus either, for the last three weeks I think. Sorry don't know what to suggest, but at least you know it's not just you!

Today I seem to have frittered away money:o but I have some things to show for it.

    1) Online scratch x 10p
    2) Got forms through to defer my student loans for yet another year. Only 12 years since I graduated , and still poor! I daren't even contemplate adding them to my debt total yet.
    3) Checked online banking. Then phoned Vax to chase up a refund for something I cancelled last week. Refunds can take 30 days to process apparently. Funnily enough they take your money straight away.
4)Used MOCs for little Tesco top-up shop.
    5) Bought T a lovely new bike helmet from a shop that closing down. It was only £2 and I was thrilled. So thrilled that I picked up the wrong size and it is too small for him.
    6) Got a Gimme Gimme Gimme DVD for £1.50 from a charity shop. I know it's awful, but it's a secret guilty pleasure so I was quite chuffed.
    7) Got a sealed tape for our camcorder from a charity shop for 25p. Bargain, they are usually about a fiver.
    8) Spent afternoon in playbarn and used season ticket.
9)Didn't want to pay out for lunch in a cafe so shared a portion of chips on a bench in the sunshine. Much nicer!

I am a bit fed-up today, for no particular reason. OH is going out so I am going to have a lovely bath then have some wine and catch up with Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice and hopefully restore myself to some semblance of sparklyness!

Hope you all have good evenings, especially Jo_R. I hope you are contracting as I type!

fayjmck - I've got moneymaker tomatoes and a dwarf variety that can go in pots on the patio. I'm hoping they'll do well there as our patio gets full sun all day. I've only got one variety of pepper so far - I've not grown them before but with the astronomical price in the shops I figured they would be worth a try!

I hadn't heard the tip about growing onion sets in something else before planting out. Might try that myself. Wonder if loo roll inners would work. I have TONS of them!

    Hi All,

I'm onaly an occasional poster here but today I feel chuffed with myself.

    I have done/will do.

Put some bits on freecycle - done and one item collected, 2 to go tomorrow
Put Nicorette patches on ebay - done. I have quit and OH wont use them.
Done a small weekly grocery shop - spent £9.54 :j
Made shepherds pie for dinner and cooked chicken on "use by" to freeze,
Do the ironing - have been studiously ignoring this for a week.
Checked Gas and Electric bill after reading meter the other day to find I am in credit :T
