I just use a small squirt of washing up liquid and another of bleach which works well and is far less expensive than all these 'special' floor cleaners. What do others use in their bucket?

I can't bear the smell of bleach.. guess I could just use washing up liquid though.. I don't see the need for anything too heavy going, it's just to get surface dirt off.

I use Ecover all purpose liquid at the moment, £1 in Asda at the mo, one capful is fine.

I use a lightweight steam mop, I love it! It has washable micro-fibre cloth heads that go in the washing machine.

I have a vast expanse of stone tiled floor to keep clean, judging from the dirt on the cloth it's doing a good job. The floor dries really quickly too.

I do the same, it's mazing how much dirt the steam mop heads pick up!

I couldn't be bothered faffing around with a mop and bucket. My kitchen is quite big, so it's eaier to just whizz round with the steam mop.

Mop and bucket only used to get 'spills' as I feel that it just pushes the dirt around. I vacuum then use a steam-mop. However the kitchen tiles (very old) have dimples in them and the only way to really get them clean is a hands and knees job. I use an old washing up scourer and like previous posters wipe dry with an old towel as I go along. It's amazing the dirt you find when you're on your hands and knees - you get to see all the splashes etc on the cupboard doors and kickboards

I have a brand new mop and bucket sitting here staring at me whilst I whizz around with floor wipes or steam mop. Mom has one of those "pedal bucket" and mop which I find it to be quite good but not impressed by the price tag.

Mop and bucket for me too. But I do agree there is nothing quite like doing it on your hands and knees :-) a much better job and seems to stay cleaner for longer (doesn't encourage me to do it more often tho!)

Hi, thanks all for your replies. It seems the mop and bucket or hands and knees are nore popular. I have a small kitchen and bathroom but don't feel I could be bothered to go on my hands and knees. The wipes are easy but you don't get that lingering fresh smell like you do with the mop and bucket and cleaner.

You can get some floor cleaner now that you just squirt on the floor and use a mop with it and no bucket needed, I know they sell it in Wilkinsons, has anyone used that and find it OK?
  • Mop and Bucket preferably if I had my way with boiling water in both buckets as proper Cleaning Ladies do. (Ideally I would have a light Aluminium Double Bucket with Squeezer) with Detergent of some sort.
Maybe I will also look into the Steam Mop idea.
I only have a 1 bedroom flat to clean but I am too lazy hence some horrible build up in the walking areas.

  • I prefer to NOT go on my hands and knees but do have scrubbing brushes.

I use as mop and bucket.

I did used to use the spray which you squirt onto the floor and wipe off with a cloth. I think its a detox type thing. It worked fine but a mop and bucket, hot water, and tesco value cleaner is alot cheaper. :money: ;) and just as good.
