is the dublin server the one is suggests...are you based in Ireland?
the only speedtest ISPs will pay attention to is the bt oneUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
Im in Glasgow mate, it suggests that as my closest.
Surely this speed cannot be an acceptable level of service.
My T Mobile dongle is faster than this - no joke!!0 -
Use the BTW speedtester www.speedtester.bt.com and post the statsIm in Glasgow mate, it suggests that as my closest.

If you have BT Vision then presumably you have/had 2 meg or more as that
is the minimum speed requirement for BTV...does the VOD stuff work OK ?
Are you running a speedtest while using (or just after) a VOD session on
your BTV ???
Are you connected directly in the BT master socket or via an extn socket
if you havent already you may want to check your internal wiring etc
in case thats what causing your problems...google adsl bell wire problems
if you are only a few hundred metres from the exchange then you should get almost the full 8meg0 -
With BT Vision switched off.

paintProgressAndMessageOnBar(100,"The test has successfully completed"); Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:
-provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 7584 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 1250 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1134 kbps
If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP.
If you are experiencing problems with specific applications, servers or websites please contact your ISP for assistance.
Your test has completed please close this window to exit the performance tester.0 -
You are connecting at 7.5meg (good) but but your line profile is poor (1.25meg) so something isnt right.
If you havent already plug your router into the test socket of your main BT
socket (if you have an nte5 type master socket) this will eliminate any defects in your internal wiring, check the first couple of pages in your
phone book on how to identify and isolate main socket/wiring etc
Do you have any wired extn sockets ??? if so you may need to remove the
bell wire as this can have a major effect on your broadband0 -
Your sync rate is very good, the ip profile (1250) is what is causing the slow throughput. This should change to 6500 assuming the line remains sync'ed at the same speed.0

how do i find this out?
Look at the Downstream figure at http://192.168.1.254/
Or run the test at http://www.speedtester.bt.com which will give you this plus the ip profile and throughput0 -
I have no idea what a bell wire of master socket is heh.
What I did do however was have a look around the house for BT sockets.
Now bearing in my I paid for this line to be installed -even though there were two existing bt sockets in the property, they claimed there was never a line here so it couldnt just be reconnected - I have paid for a full new install.
I was at work when this was installed, yesterday but did make a point to my mum to tell her that I want the socket put behind the TV so that the wee man's xbox can connect with the cable and i can sit the router on my little glass stand over there. She specifically told him that as I was paying for a new install - I want it behind the tv and for none of the current infrastructure to be utlised whatsoever.
Now tracing what he's done throughout the house. . . . there is a socket behind my couch and one in the bedroom. The cable stops in the bedroom. The one behind my couch has two cables comin from it - one into the room and the other round the back of my tv, both of which have BT boxes on them.
How am I supposed to know which one is the main one? It's going to be extremely difficult getting the router into any of the other two without obtaining a lengthy extension cable . . . not to mention if one of these two are the main socket that I need to use - Im either going to need to go out and buy a huge ethernet cable and do a pretty good job of hiding it(laid laminate floor last week, cant even hide it under there) for the xbox to get online or spend 60 quid on an xbox 360 wireless adapter.
